Guest guest
Hi all After a stressful week re coughing and throat clearing and feeling crap I am 100 percent convinced and rang the lung specialist to tell him. My coughing is coming from my hiatus hernia and reflux disease(gerd) 2 weeks off puffers and my throat is still sooooo dry. He wants my esophagus to heal and says no puffers yet so it feels good to know I actually wasn’t nuts and DID know my body and that my coughing wasn’t due to bronch as there was nothing at all to cough up. But my poor throat feels like I swallowed a whole dust storm nothing seems to soothe it. So now I have to get this weight off and watch the bending etc etc. Have a referral for the ENT so he can have another look down there so will organise that in Ballarat as I like the guy there he is lovely. Apparently gerd and hernias can be like volcanoes and erode the throat and mimic asthma symptoms. I am doubled on my nexium and take it at night and would you believe no coughing and I am getting some sleep. See if only the quacks would listen o me I would have had relief sooner. Just wanted to share with you all my news...and back at rehab and loving it. What a fantastic funny bunch this time soooo nice and we laugh so much my ribs hurt...everyone should do rehab at least once Cheers Lee Yahoo!7: Catch-up on your favourite Channel 7 TV shows easily, legally, and for free at PLUS7. Guest guest
If you can find slippery elm bark powder at a natural foods store, or order it from a good grocery or durg store, it helps GERD very much. So do deglycerized (? spelling) licorice tablets. The glycerin in natural licorice can raise blood pressure, so it's removed from these chewable tablets. Licorice and slippery elm are very mucilaginous and soothe the throat, esophagus, and stomach. These two natural remedies, eating carefully, and reducing stress helped wean me off the proton pump inhibitor Protonix, which worked well, but it's just not good to take PPI's indefinitely (Nexium is an over the counter PPI). I also find chewing gum after eating helpful because it creates saliva, which is an acid neutralizer. I take Tums antacids after my morning coffee with milk. Swore off tea and coffee while I was healing from the GERD, though: still have to be careful but love my coffee! You may find, as I did, that vinegars and many bottled sauces cause acid. Ice cream, candy, and wine are lethal for me, too, except for dark chocolate that isn't very sweet (thank heavens :-)! Strenuous exercise four or five days a week and eating right will make a big difference too, as you say. Extra weight can cause GERD by weakening the sphincter muscle that keeps stomach contents in the stomach and by squeezing the stomach. It also makes it difficult for the lungs to fully expand. I remember one of my daughters telling me what a hard time she had auditioning for a symphony position while eight months pregnant. It was hard for her to fill her lungs sufficiently to get the best sound from her clarinet, she said, even though she knew the music well. Hope these more natural remedies help. Best of luck defeating that GERD. Kay news Hi all After a stressful week re coughing and throat clearing and feeling crap I am 100 percent convinced and rang the lung specialist to tell him.
