Guest guest
Just thought I'd share with this list what I just posted on another list. In the thread a mom posted her meaning of recovery as being " indistinguishble " & free from all special diets & supplements. Just thought I'd share my reply as it mentions a couple of benchmark moments that we've had with our son recently. Copy of my post: Your recovery bar is higher than I'll ever want to go with eatting the same food that the other kids eat & no supplements...I've learned to much over the last 6 years to EVER want to go back to the poor Standard American Diet (SAD) for anyone in my family, ASD or not. My NT daugther (6 years recovered Asthmatic) doesn't go there either! With this statement you are lumping good nutrition & true food allergins (which many NT children have...be it some do not recognise they have allergies with all their rx nebulizers, drugs...not to mention the IBS symptoms that aren't being dealt with....read Healing The New Childhood Epidemics by Dr Bock for more " Recovery " stories...it's not just ASD!). For immune/viral/bacterial support my NT daughter (whose an excellent student & friend to many) also gets daily maitenence doses of LDM-100, fish oil, minerals like cal/mag & a really good multi-vitamins for better overall health). I also do low sugar, high nutrition like smoothies & good diet (unlike the high sugar, dyes, artificial crap that the neighbor & school kids around us do). We have not been sick all year (unlike the neighbor kids). There are several " indistinguishble " kids in our WA group. As our kids play together at the playground no one can tell they are recovering ASD's...others are shocked when we've mentioned it....it has Many Times opened up the doors to tell what we are doing. None of us parents will ever go back to the old SAD diet who are always hauling their kids to the docs w/ear infections, etc, etc...with such poor immune systems. More importantly than diet, or for me even than recovery itself is my sons overall health is better....he's healthier for a longer, better life. His recovery is just coming naturally with his better health. Heidi I concure completely, cure...they've been hit by a bus immune wise. I'll take recovery....even more I'm reaching for his better health!!! We're not at recovery yet...close...but still working on things...doc figures 2/3 of the way up this huge ice-burg. I so strove to be recovered at first, and hoped I'd be there by now....but in learning all I've learned in this last 6 years of recovery I've changed....now I also want better health for where he is as an individual...with the nutrition his body needs to be healthier for a life-time. Just in this last month my son (11yo-5th grade) in a general ed school/class received a " Responsibility " award in front of the whole school (600+ students + lots of parents). He got up when his name was called, shook the principals hand, and walked down the isle to stand with his award with the other students receiving their awards. He also that same day did a song with the other 5th grade students including the motions at the assembly (a few years ago he would not even go into music class because it was to loud). On top of that when the principal was asking what the next months character trait " considerate " means he raised his hand, was called on & answered....brought tears to me & many other teachers/friends that have seen his progress....the friend standing next to me leaned over and whispered " that's YOUR son " then smiled. He's behind in some subjects but he's reading at grade level now (UW docs told me 6 years ago he would probably never read) & with the addition of the alkalinized/micro-clustered/ionized water last fall he's brought his vocab & reading comprehension (gen ed/not modified) from a C- to a B+....he's also one of the best spellers in his class, regularly getting 100%. He's playing kick ball with the other kids & was so proud he wrote about the goal he made causing his team to win last week. He may not be " recovered " yet...but I'll take the pure joy in all of his improvements (even on his special diet & supplements). Just my 2 cents....
