Guest guest
Yah we finally have a day for my little man's first syrgery. It will be November 5th. We are relieved it is so soon. I did not want to have to drive in 2 feet of snow. We found out that he was born with a small gap in his spine that a fatty mass has slithered into and took a hold of his spinal cord. The only thing I was worried about besides the obvious was his blood tumor right where they need to make the inssion. She said they are going to have to cut right through it becuase it is too big for it to be removed. I am a little nervious but hopefull. All of his pre operation test are for the 4th. What do they do? No one has told me what the pre operation test consit of. Is it just a discussion r do they take blood and what nots? Hope everyone has a great weekend. Guest guest
Don't know if things have changed, but long long time ago, it was always standard to have pre-op blood work and chest xray done within 72 hrs of any hospital surgery. Even if they were just done one week eariler. Now days, it seems, like as long as the blood work was relative recent and there is no change in condition, they they could/would use those labs and chest xray results. So, it may depend on each hospital or area's standard protocol. It usually took a couple of hours of doing paperwork, talking to anesthesia, talking to financial people, etc etc. All just necessary " stuff " . I am a little nervious but it should all go smooth. One of the nurses said we might have to do some blood test and urine test a week before but I have not heard anything else about it so maybe we wont need it. Subject: RE: 's Surgery To: tetheredspinalcord Date: Thursday, October 14, 2010, 6:31 PM Glynda -- my pre-op appts were where I met a nurse and anaesthesiologist to discuss the surgery/hospital stay. They just did basic tests -- eg temperature, blood pressure etc. Will only do blood tests/other tests if there are health concerns. Not sure if it's any different for kids. Just be sure to have with you any meds your son takes for that appt and it's a great opportunity to discuss any concerns with the anaesthesiologist We wish your son the best!
