Guest guest
Dear Diane, Sorry I've just been a lurker lately, we seem to be spending all our time in Dr's offices lately. I was a little surprised that your local Children's hospital wouldn't accept BCBS insurance. I know in Massachusetts that BCBS is highly regulated by the government and in my mind is really closely linked as it administers Medicare and must provide insurance to everyone who can pay. (Can't exclude as some of the other private insurance companies can). If that is truly the case and the local Children's hospital won't accept BCBS you may want to talk to your state representative as I'm sure he or she would be concerned about the health and welfare of the children in your area and this would not seem in their best interests. I hope Kody is doing alright--the last thing you need to worry about now is whether the hospital you depend upon is willing to accept your insurance. On a positive note, we have a PPO and that allows us to use any doctor we want even one out of network. I believe that also allows you to use any healthcare facility. You may have a higher copay though. (We pay 20% when we do this). Good Luck -- I hope you get the answers you need to ensure Kody continues to get good care. Guest guest
Diane, In most cases, insurance companies have to let you use the Children's hospital if it's the only children's hospital in town. You may be able to get an exception.
Guest guest
Diane, When will you hear about Kody's impending SSI? If approved, would he then be able to attend the hospital? I assume they would accept that insurance? You may need to push them a little harder to get it done, but now you have more diagnoses to add. Just a thought. Guest guest
Thanks, Martha. I know, I was stunned too when I heard it. I know that BCBS is the biggest insurance carrier here. Just praying it has to do with the HMO part. I know a lot of doctors around here won't accept the BCBS HMO insurance, which is why we switched to the PPO plan. Pretty scary around here just thinking about the implications though. This hospital has sunk millions of dollars renovating and updating the whole hospital. Plus right now they are adding a whole new cardiac unit on to the hospital. I watched the construction on it from Kody's hospital window. I can't figure out how the hospital can afford to turn away BCBS. The only other hospital I would trust to take care of Kody is 3 hours away. Right now he is doing well, knock wood. ) I am going to check with dh's work since it seems every year there are different insurance choices available to see if we have other options open to us. I heard in the rumor mill that Sears was considering having Priority Health insurance as an alternative to BCBS. Sad when we have to worry about insurance along with everything else with our kids!! Guest guest
, I sure hope we can get an exception! The problem is, it isn't that the insurance company won't let us go to the hospital, it is the hospital refusing the insurance that is the problem!!! Frustrating. But it isn't a done deal yet, so I am sure praying hard!!! Diane, Mom to Kody
Guest guest
Diane: I'm sorry about your insurance worries, that stinks. I can tell you that my previous doctor (I loved this guy, he was wonderful and I miss being able to see him) did not accept BCBS PPO, and he explained it was because he didn't accept the BCBS HMO. He said BCBS forces the docs to accept both or nothing, that way their HMO patients have access to more docs. Hope that's not the case in your case or your state. (mom to , age 3-1/2. Guest guest
, Put pressure on the hospital and the insurance to work this out! I bill insurance for services and the problem is that BCBS pays very poorly sometimes less than our state programs pay. I think it will probably blow over but a letter campaign to both of them may make a difference. It is one way to pressure them to come to an agreement. It is sad that this is the state of our health care system. Barbie (Lucas 6, PID)
Guest guest
HOW'S THE BREATHING DOING NOW??? Is it too much salt??? Or too much work??? Glad that your meds are finally sortta out... Things like that seem to take forever don't they? Has it warmed up there yet??? This cold seems to be hitting the entire United States ( My Brother-in-law lives in Miami and they got down to 33* the other night ( He has Over 250 orchids outside that he had to try and get in... He said that was no easy task, as he has them everywhere and hanging in the trees also... He has such a lovely house... most of the houses down that far don't even have furnaces in them, they do have fireplacess in the older homes... he said that even the keys got into the 30's ( now we will see how high the price of fruit and veggies go... That is their lively hood down there... If you don't get any better, you better check in with your Dr's... Take time for you! Your important too!!!!!!!!!! ((( Easy Soft Hugs ))) Helen Hello Helen I'm doing fine. We've been quite busy at work so I haven't been quite as careful as I should be and am retaining a bit of fluid. It's getting a little difficult to breathe when lying on my side or front but at least I don't have to prop myself up yet. At least all the mail order meds has been straightened out. It is surprisingly cold in Houston right now. Mostly because the buildings are not built for comfort in the cold. I can have the thermostat set to 75 and it'll still be well below 67 in some rooms. I think I'm going to set the fan to on from auto and see if it can stir the air up enough to even out the temperature. I haven't seen any snow though. My therapist is back from her vacation but other than that, I'm not scheduled to see my cardiologist till Febuary and my GP till March. Guest guest
, I am so afraid of fires. I will never own a space heater for that reason. I understand if you are careful you may not have a fire, but I'm still so afraid of them, not really sure why though. Is there a way that you can order food from the restaurants without salt? I watch salt as well because when I eat too much I retain water and I can't hear very well because I get fluid in my ear. I hope you are doing better! Hugs, --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Guest guest
Hi , Thought about you off and on all day today with everything going on around you there... Hope you are alright... Maybe you will be able to get some much needed rest this month since they are putting it off till the end of the month... I don't eat fast foods too often... There nice to have around, but I like homemade better... I haven't heard anymore about my brother-in-laws orchids, so don't know how they faired... We have finally warmed up to 35* ) We will hit 48 by Mon. Then we are heading back down again for our highs in the teens and twent's by mid next week again ( Please take care of yourself... Hope and Pray your Health is doing better... ((( Love and Hugs ))) Helen It's both, when we work the long hours, we expense meals. The thing about restaurants is that the food is really high in sodium and is in excessive quantities. During the move, I was gaining weight by about two pounds a day, when it's that fast it's fluid retention. Now that I've had a chance to rest a bit, the weight is coming off pretty quickly too. The next phase of the move has been postponed to the end of Febuary so I'm going to have a bit of a breather. The people that I know that grow orchids here, grow them in greenhouses cooled by evaporator coolers because it's normally too hot in Houston for Orchids. I don't know if they have heaters, but if they didn't, they probably do now. What happens in Houston when it gets cold like this is there's a lot of fires because people are using portable space heaters and they either tip or they're too close to flamable stuff like curtains. The firestation is across the street from me so I can hear the trucks go out on a call. It still takes forever to get paramedics here even though they are just across the street. Guest guest
Hello Helen Thanks for the concern. I seem to be getting better, rest is definitely the key. The new office is surrounded by chain restaurants so the options are not very good when we work late. They're saying that it may get down to 35 as a low on Thursday which for Houston is worrisome. A lot of pipes are routed through the attics and tend to freeze and burst. Also cold weather takes a serious toll on the homeless here simply because there's so many of them. Guest guest
, I am suprised to hear you have a lot of homeless there. I guess I assumed Houston was a wealthy community. I know, never assume anything. We have a good samaritan center, that collects food & clothing & usually has enough funds to give people a tank of gas, or a motel room, and 2 of the churches have kitchens that serve lunches. And there is a saint of a guy that drives around in a van & gathers em up & takes them to the shelter or detox at night. We used to have people freeze to death in the parks. I thought it was so mean to lock the restrooms at night, but that is why, so they wont sleep in there. This is a very small town, so maybe that makes it easier. Or, harder to look the other way. Hard to believe, in this country.......dont even want to get started. We need to " clean up our own back yard " , and get our priorities in order. Take care, > Glad that you are doing better ...
