Guest guest
It sounds like you are doing all of the right things. Your body just may be taking a breather to adjust to the changes it's going through. What type of procedure did you have? I am still pre-op but have learned some stuff from researching here and elsewhere. Jeanne in WI one month post-op- slow weight loss Good Evening to all. I am only one month post-op, have been following soft diet the dietician gave me with high protein, and very little carbs. (3 carefully measured meals a day, at least 64ounces of water) I walk 2 times a day for 30-40 minutes. Haven't started back at the gym or swimming because incision is still open at spots and draining. (dr. knows) I lost 15 pounds the first 2 weeks, and barely 2 pounds in the past 2 weeks. I know that everyone is different, but I didn't think I'd hit a plateau this quickly. Any advice? Also, does anyone know where I can look to see how much other post ops have lost during their first 6 months. Thanks.

Guest guest
-I have been getting between 60 and 70 gm. of protein each day. Breakfast is usually one egg (poached), 1/4 C low-fat cottage cheese, and 1/4 cup low-fat yogurt with 1 Tbsp. powdered dry milk mixed in. Lunch has been 2 ounces of tuna, (packed in water), 1/4 cup low-fat yogurt, and 1/2 slice whole wheat toast with a little margarine. Dinner is 2 ounces fish, 1/4 cup yogurt with 1 Tbsp. powdered dry milk, and 1/4 cup soft vegetable or fruit. I also drink a protein shake on some days. I use powdered dry milk in my de-caf coffee. I take all my supplements at the times my doctor told me to. I get hungry between meals, but drink water, de-caf coffee and crystal light since my doctor wants me to be on the 3 meals a day with no snacks. Guest guest
I'm just gonna spit it out there and you can just reject it, but you asked us, so here goes. Ditch the milk (in any form) and stick with real protein SUPPLEMENT. Cut the meal size in half, but do it twice as often. The way you're doing it now is what I call the starve & stuff method. You get TOO hungry between meals and then have to stuff WAY too much food in for good pouch maintenance. I could not eat a whole egg til I was 9 months postie. And nothing with it, of course. In my highly biased opinion, the way you're doing it is the way someone would do it to gain, or maintain weight, such as a senior citizen. How do you fatten up a kid? Feed 'em milk. Lots of milk. So, too much volume (not often enough), too much sugar, not enough supplementation to keep you from being hungry. And all that sugar makes you hungry. I didn't see much fat there, either and you need a BIT to create satisfaction. YOU ASKED, right? Guest guest
-Thank you very much for taking the time to answer my concerns. I will ditch the milk, I didn't realize powdered dry milk was high in sugar. You are correct with saying I am eating the starve and stuff method. I get very hungry between meals, but stick to water and non- caloric beverages. At meal times I have no problems eating my food, and don't feel stuffed when I am finished, but I stop eating when I've had what I've measured out. I will add a bit of fat, I've been hungry for a little anyway. Thank you again so much, I will let you know how this week goes.
