Guest guest
Born at Manhattan General, I believe? But raised - - well, actually, I wasn't raised IN New York. That is not accurate, although I did spend a lot of my younger years IN NY. I was raised right in the outskirt of NY - - in Connecticut. Greenwich, CT. Know it? Now I don't mind the accent, i just don't want it on me, that's all. But it STILL beats having a Massachusetts accent. And boy... they really have some issues with spelling and reading up there. In my college years at Boston - - - I spent the whole time wondering: " How on earth is WORCESTER pronounced as WOOSTAH? " I mean, I can understand " warchester " or even " worsester " - but how does one person get WOOSTAH out of Worcester? No offense, of course LOL. Well, in England they do keep the " R " but it is the Massachusetts version of the English pronunciation. So you have to blame the English first. Gloucester is Gloster. Oh, my favorite is Kirkcudbright in Scotland which is pronounced Kir-coo-bree. Nice, huh? Salli

Place names are weird all over, espcially when you have a variety of ethnic groups doing the naming. (German, French, Native, Ukrainian). This is not a pronounciation problem. This is an absolute spelling problem. What's wrong with spelling a town calls Kircoobree as Kircoobree, or even something nice and fancy like Curcoobrie? Curcubrey? Whatever! It's a phonetic nightmare. Grace
