Krassi,

My husband had his tonsils removed when he was a young boy and said that he

never fell good after the operation. They removed them becuase he used to get

lot of infections, but now he reckons he would have been better off leaving them

in.

He still gets that sort of annoying feeling in the throat area and he had it

since then, so the operation didn't make things better for him and now he tells

me that he had that organ for a purpose and it should have been never removed in

the first place, that is his opinion now anyway.

I've heard quiet a few stories of kids improving after removing tonsils. We are

going to do it for my son too soon, after we resolve some other health problems.

Olga, not sure what exactly happened to your husband, but the general idea is

that tonsils are VERY useful for you ONLY IF they are healthy. Healthy tonsils

and adenoids are part of lymphatic drainage system and their main job is to

clean the brain form toxins. BUT! if these organs are inflamed or infected even

without inflammation, they start doing the opposite, they actually start dumping

toxins INTO the brain, causing brain inflammation etc. And it's almost

impossible to diagnose this problem here in the US, I don't remember details,

but heard stories of people getting negative results on tonsils " swab " tests

here in the US and then getting positive! results from the same " swab " method

somewhere abroad, with very dangerous infections found living on them.

Another bit of info - if tonsils are enlarged, even if there is no visible

inflammation, they catch food the person eats and that food is the perfect

ground for breeding bacteria and such.

We saw 2 ENT docs for my son, 1st one (older, about 50 yo) recommended surgery,

second one (young, under 35) said it's no big deal. But I will go with the 1st

one's opinion, after all I've read and heard. The pint is, it's possible to

find ENT who will think along the same lines as Dr. K.

Krassi,

PANDAS is an autoimmune disease. Looking at the titers of ASO and anti-DNase B

alone is not sufficient. These titers fluctuate depending on raising and

falling of symptoms. Also, if a child is deficient in IgG, s/he probably can

not produce antibodies and will have negative Strep titers when tested.

The diagnosis will also require sophisticated anti-brain antibody testing.

We just brought our son for a blood draw to test ASO and anti-DNase B. If the

result is within the reference range, we will proceed with Cunningham and Anne

Connelly tests.

Krassi,

I have dragged my kid to multiple gold star specialists (ha ha) for everything

including the top ranks of useless ENTs...my little one's tonsils were sooo

inflamed they almost touched and i thought that was contributing to the gag

reflexing while eating and lack of tongue movement. He was mr. antibiotic king

as a kid...finally I asked dr. j at umdnj just to give me a script to test for

strep (incomplete) and have the GI swab the tonsils since he was going under for

ANOTHER endo/colonoscopy. loved my GI and asked that he take a few pics while

going down my kid's hatch again which he did.

blood labs and swabs yielded NOTHING but his poop was full of 2 kinds of

strep...nothing like one in the house getting giardia to start collecting poop

on demand...we all have alot strep. Finally NP tested for PANDAS..older kid

ripped wicked titers and my little one, still couldn't post a titer due to his

depressed immune system....but lots of strep has been picked up via other

testing methods.

ps....mom also did a few too many detox foot baths (perhaps 3 in a week is a bit

much) and the last one i did was much stronger...the water was absolutely nasty

and the next day i woke up with you got it...strep throat...but it wasn't

diagosed for a few days until I finally caved and went to ER for the calve

wounds...it was coming out of my shins. and as caryn always reminds me...it

goes hand in hand with bartonella and that we don't want in the brain.

I'd love to figure out if the tonsils need to go, his adnoids went at 3 but they

wouldn't take the tonsils....but i'ld love more insight into other means to take

out the infected tonsils...dr. k prefers that we take our kids abroad which is a

challenge for some of us.

Dear Krassi,

I was in the same position as you not too long ago, I have two boys who have

Autism/Lyme/PANDAS. My older son was crippled by PANDAS and no matter what I do

whether it was antibiotics or herbal or any other treatment it didn't help

whatsoever and his titar was up and down despite all the treatment. We did a

tonsillectomy earlier this year per Dr. K's advice and to be honest with you I

couldn't be happier.

I'm not saying he's completely recovered, but he's never been happier. For

example when he comes home from school the pain he was in was so evident on his

face that it broke my heart just to look at him and his sleep was terrible and

now his face lights up, his complexion is much brighter and he's always happy

and his OCD and body ticks have disappeared (along with the terrible sleeping

habits). I know some parents say that their kids regress after the surgery and I

believe that does not have anything to do with the surgery itself but the

anesthesia that is used during the surgery such as nitrous oxide. Our kids have

a methylation problem and if the wrong anesthesia is used they can regress.

When my son had his surgery we used a gentler anesthesia and we did lot of liver

support enema he done nothing but improve and when people have a chronic

infection the tonsils become a toxic focus themselves and as long as the patient

reacts with tonsilitis fever and rather acute symptons the tonsils might be

healthy. As soon as they have stopped reacting they may have lost their health

and may be a dangerous focus.

Tonsils are often overlooked chronic focus and the underlying cause of many

health problems according Dr. ph Issels who pioneered the work that led to

the current understanding of dental and tonsil pathology. While the medical

community have caught up in someways with the involved dental issues, very few

practioners have paid attention to Dr. Issel's teachings in regards to the

tonsils and the need for early tonsilectomy in the treatment of many chronic

illnesses.

If you do not address this issue right now, nothing you do will work because the

tonsils have become nothing but a toxic focus in the body.

My other son is having surgery next month and I'm looking forward to the

positive results that will follow. It is not hard find a specialist that will

agree with you to the surgery as long as you explain your child's multiple

infections that he/she has been having per year.

Best of luck,

Adar.

One of the BEST things we ever did for our daughter's PANDAS induced tourettes

was to remove her tonsils ..

Strep lived in them ... keeping her body constantly inflamned and there was no

end to it... it was consistant and constant source of trouble.

Taking out the tonsils made it possible to finally start treating the internal

issues ... without having to constantly battle an ongoing exposure and insult

from live bacteria that lived within the folds of the tonsils and was impossible

to irradicate.

With the tonsils gone ... she improved 10 fold almost immediately ... and

through the years has been able to go off of all medications to control her tics

.... they were at one time uncontrollable even with meds ... Today she doesn't

need any ... She still suffers from tics ... but NOTHING at all like it use to

be ... Most folks no longer believe her when she tells them she has tourettes.

Thank you everybody for sharing your experience and thoughts.

Adar and Milinda, if you don't mind asking you more questions - could you share

if you did any preparation prior to the tonsillectomy, like anything else to

support the liver? Did you give anything to your child to make him relaxed

before they put the anesthesia?

My son is so afraid from doctor's offices from the minute he sees somebody in

white gown he panics and wants to escape. I am afraid that for any kind of

testing (we need to do soon tonsil culture and deep nasal culture) he needs to

be sedated, otherwise they will not be able to do any testing.

About the anesthesia - besides nitrous oxide, is there anything else I need to

be aware not to give to my son?

Thanks again for your help,

Krassi,

B12 injections before and after anesthesia can help the liver to detox the

drugs. You can also discuss with the doctor to use water-soluable drugs and

avoid fat-soluable drugs in anesthesia, so they are easier for the body to

excrete.

Here is a good article for preparation:

Krassi,

I feel that my son became more OCD through treating parasites. He has had

PANDAS for a long time. I wonder if the worms were housing strep that has been

dumped in the system? My son does not have throat strep, rather alpha and gamma

haemolytic strep a stool test. I have this as well, even on an oral test and I

actually break out into scarlet fever from this type of strep. I don't feel

that my son has strep in his tonsils. Although I have strep in my tonsils, I

think my son did not catch his orally.

We been fighting PANDA's for years, all kinds of treatments, and I am sick of it

all, and

the slow down of progress. Nothing has worked out, and my son has had tons of

work

to treat it.

Your only option would be to go to Germany, and have the laser treatment, but it

could take up to 3 treatments of freezing the tonsils. They stay intact and

then can remain healthy after that. But that would mean you may need to stay

there 2 months to have this treatment done.

I am bummed they don't do this in the USA!

My son is going to have his tonsils out, advised by DR K as well.

You might ask there office what else you can do to boost the system. I am doing

some things but don;t want to suggest them, since its just for my son. The

Methyl B-12 shots

are good to do, as someone mentioned already.

Best to your son

Allie,

My son has such a fear of doctors, that the problem is he will not stay still

for 18 seconds (the time they need to do the laser treatment in Germany) and

unfortunately for this procedure he will have to be fully sedated each time they

do it. So the fact that takes more than once is big draw back for us, as the

fact that it will be very very expensive because we will have to fly each time

there or stay for months. Please let me know how your son's tonsillectomy goes

and crossing my fingers you see big gains after that.

Lynn from PANDAS Network said that 73% of PANDAS children do not have

elevated ASO and anti-DNase B. Her doctor Dr. DB also mentioned there is a high

rate of false negative test results in nasal and throat culture. Further, Strep

might not be the only bacterial family that cause PANDAS.

Propofol (one of drugs for anesthesia) is also something we should avoid:

Agreed, has similar experience, suspects it shocks the balanced or iffy brain out of neuro balance for good. There are articles on this all over the net, at least a few on ProHealth. A combo of that and the subsequent MRI and CAT scans when following certain types of surgery, the heavy metals in the contrast solutions too (gandolinium for one is a radioactive element, yes?) could easily knock a child out of balance for good, depending on the detox capacity of the child. In China and in other countries acupuncture has been successfully used for some anesthes. purposes. Dr K recommended tonsilectomy for my son years ago also, we talked our ENT into

it since my son was on his 3rd set of ear tubes and also his tonsils where a bit

inflammed. The two weeks after where the worst for my son, the pain is horific

(I had them out when I was 24 and it hurt BAD) and he could only eat popsicles

and yogurt for two weeks, then he developed severe motor and vocal tics (which

he never had before and his other PANDAS symptoms got worse (where mild prior to

this). I was told there was no connection with the development of the tics and

the procedure but I dont believe it. His symptoms have been getting worse and

worse since then - 5years ago. I think taking his tonsils out may also have left

his body without a way to filter the bad bugs and not sure why he developed the

tics so bad but it is heartbreaking and i wish I could reverse time. Just our

sad experience

(I think PANDAS/PITANDS can be caused by other bugs , not just strep...

virus/parasites/lyme etc....

Our LLMD just started my son and I on bactraban ointment(for me) and nebulized

for my son up our sinus's to get rid of strep, he said we just keep passing it

back and forth to each other... so we will see... we did 30 day taper of

prednisone to help with the autoimmune part but didnt see anything positive from

After the specialist agreed to do the surgery, I booked an appointment with the

anesthesiologist at that hospital. On the day of the appointment I gathered all

the information that I wanted to talk to him about such as the kinds of

medications I didn't want used on my son and the kinds of medication I wanted to

use.

What I told him to not use on my son was Nitrous Oxide which is fat-soluble drug

that is difficult for the liver to metabolize and can deactivate methionine

synthase which is B12 dependent enzyme important in the methylation cycle.

Propofol it may be problematic for patients with allergy to soy or eggs and also

raised regarding a potential to exacerbate mitochondrial disorder.

Ketamine which is a dissociative anesthetic and alter the patient's sensory

perception, which raises questions about its use on our children due to the

sensory issues many autistic children have.

What I did tell him to use on my son was, Sevoflorane and Fentanyl which is

gentler on the liver due it's being easily detoxified by the liver. Midazolam

for the pain. My son (like any other child) is not a big fan of needles so when

he was at the hospital the anesthesiologist and the surgeon agreed that it would

be best if I were to go inside the surgery room to comfort my son until the

anesthesia took effect (via mask and not I.V). After he came out I mixed his

apple juice with activated charcoal and when we came home I gave him an Epsom

Salt bath and coffee enema. He was also given homepatheic remedies to support

his system and mms to heal him faster instead of antibiotic.

My son's at the best he's ever been right now and it was due to taking out his

tonsils. His tonsils when taken out were not big (they were medium sized)

however they were heavily scarred. Presently he is very happy despite the

babesia that he is currently fighting.

P.S: prior to the surgery, I also helped his methlylation cycle so he can handle

the anesthesia better.

I hope this helps, and if you have any more questions I will be happy to answer.

Best of luck,

-Adar

Deborah,

I am with you. I too think that PANDAS/PITANDS is caused by multiple

infections, not just Strep. Dr. RT mentions that " Lyme-like " infections might

be involved. Dr. DB suggests to look beyond throat and tonsils. He believes

that chronic, low grade sinus infections can also cause PANDAS. Dr. RS has been

suggesting all these years to treat MARCONS in the sinuses to reduce

inflammation and raise MSH levels. Both Strep and Staph can make a protective

shield (biofilm) for Lyme and coinfecitons to hind under.

In our Yasko days, we used Xylitol nasal spray daily to inhibit Strep and Staph

in the sinus area. We hadn't done this for years, until very recently I resumed

to spray my son daily with grapefruit extract.

Limin,

One of my boys had a bad sinusitis for a long time and we did grape fruit seed

extract sprays for a while without much success, but what I have found to be of

great help for him is Sinuflex Super strength Homeopathic formula by natural

care (iherb), it got rid of that stuffy nose and bad night sleep. Now he is

clear, sleeps very well and is a much happier boy.

I started applying it everyday, then 3 times a weeks and now once a week only.

The product is great and the best thing is that there is no side effect just

good results.

extract sprays for a while without much success, but what I have found to be of

great help for him is Sinuflex Super strength Homeopathic formula by natural

care (iherb), it got rid of that stuffy nose and bad night sleep. Now he is

clear, sleeps very well and is a much happier boy.

>>>> Dear group,

>>>> As usual when difficult questions are going through my mind I ask for help

here, so here is my latest dilemma:

>>>> We had our appointment with Dr. K last week and he advised to do

tonsillectomy ASAP for my son, because he said PANDAS is severely effecting his

brain and blocking his progress. He still prescribed Azithromycin once per week

for the next 6 months to an year, but he said no matter what we should do

tonsillectomy.

>>>> The confusing part for me is that we have done some blood testing in the

past for strep, but it came back normal. However I know it depends which labs

you use and who and how interpret the results, so this time we are going to do

blood test specifically for PANDAS. However my concern is – is it possible that

you get negative results for PANDAS and you may still have it?

>>>> My son has OCD which lately is worse (after treating for parasites, not

sure what is the relationship if any).

>>>> So my big question is – how many of you have tried already the

tonsillectomy and seen good results? Did anybody see improvements in speech and

OCD?

>>>> Dr. K said that all of his patients have improved after tonsillectomy.

>>>> I did search for old messages here but found only 1 message from one mom

who said that did the tonsillectomy for her child and that he improved after

that. Has anybody regressed after that or indeed there are only positives?

>>>> Also, how difficult it is to find EENT doctor who would agree to do this

here in CA? Does anybody have any recommendations for such doctor?

>>>> Thanks in advance for your help,
