Hi Cece, I don't know about other people, but my cholesterol was very high when I was eating mostly high fat foods. All of us are different, so I guess it effects each of us differently. A high fat can indeed cause some weight loss and weight loss immediately causes a lower triglyceride/cholesterol level so a lot of temporary good can come from this diet. However, the high fat diet does so much long term hard that is undetectable until it is usually too late to change things, and that scares me. It will destroy your heart and overload you liver in no time flat... When either of those organs are gone, we are toast. So please don't be offended at my sending this link... We have just had so much pro-high fat and pro-Atkins, that I wanted everyone to be able to read an article that did not feel that this is a very healthy way to live, long term. I've done a lot of research about Atkins and high fat diet since we have been talking about it so much the last few weeks and I keep coming up with the same opinion almost everywhere I look. I am not doing this prove anyone wrong, I sincerely want to know if I am doing what is the most healthy way of eating for long term health. It's a short article but it's by a doctor I have respected for a number of years. www.drfuhrman.com/atkins.htm Shirley
Guest guest
I researched this for many years and what I found out it that when you don't combine too many carbs with fats you can eat all the fat you want and your cholesterol comes down. That is why Dr. EAdes and Dr. Atkins have all this great research and the ADA and AMA won't listed. FAt is not the enemy, sugar is. For me the carbs are under 20 a day. For another it might be as high as 50 or 100. But, I eat lots of fat and quit the lipitor because I got to where I couldn't walk or get out of bed. In two weeks off the lipitor I was dancing a jig. Now I take fish oil and niacin and have the best cholesterol I have had in years. The last test showed total was 225 and tryglicerides were 177. I know this can be better, so I am trying to start exercising and lose the rest of the weight. But, no more meds of that variety. To read more go to www.atkinscenter.com or www. mercola.com and you will learn about the fats and the fish oil. I predict in 5 years we will see a reversal on the fat issue. Sugar will become the enemy and we will be able to get all kinds of low-carb foods like they have done for low-fat. The majority of people eat low fat and just get fatter. Oh you must have carbs and fat in order to store fat, so when you limit the carbs, the fat just flushes through the body. If you could see the fat I eat in a day you would be shocked. Guest guest
I get the worst stomach ache when I eat too much fat..so its not easy for me and I have noticed that the healthier the fat (olive oil) the worse the stomach ache...Something in there is not processing fat ...So I have an organ rejecting carbs and one rejecting fats.. Guest guest
For every article you can send I can send one too, but because I am so healthy and working a medical research job and taking 3 courses in summer school, and going to the gym I will just say to the newbies, read Atkins, read Bernstein, read the research going on at Duke and the Univ of Colarado. Eat your carbs and then test, maybe you will be lucky and your blood sugar won't go up like mine does, or maybe the medication won't put you basically in a wheel chair unable to walk until I got off of it. Remember I had a major heart attack 4 years ago and now have no heart damage due to Atkins, perfect liver, perfect kidneys, good BS and good cholesterol. Still fat but have lost 40 and have 40 more to go. So just be open minded and read and test. I won't critized anyone's way of eating, I will just tell you about all the good things about mine. Guest guest
And I appreciate it. Balanced info is needed, and it is given here, from what I have seen so far. Thanks for expressing your views.
