Hi ,

You get a good grade from me for drinking less and I'm sure each day it will

improve. Most of us know that it can be hard to give up our favorite

food/drink. On those days, that you feel you must have the Coke, Orange,

etc., drink only part of it, then go for a walk or do some type of exercise.

Yesterday, when I really wanted that candy bar, I knew that if I didn't eat

it, I would be eating everything I could find to stop the craving. I ate 1/2

of the candy, then went outside and did some yardwork. Two hrs later, bg's

were 98.

I started drinking Iced Tea sweetened with Splenda with my meals. I normally

would have a soda every night with dinner and milk with lunch. I find that

the sweetness from the Tea with Splenda does the trick for me, right now

anyway.

I detest the taste of any Diet Soda's with aspartame. It was OK in coffee

and tea but the Splenda taste better for me in coffee and tea.

, when the craving hits, try asking yourself which you'd rather

have, the soda or your eyesight, feet, kidneys and functional heart.

The complications of diabetes are very real and they are terrible.

If I have any desire to " cheat, " that's what I ask myself. My

father suffered for years with these complications before he died

this past fall. It's not worth it!!

Hi

We all probably have that one thing we don't want to give up. For me,

I LOVE ice cream and although I don't have it every day, have to be

careful to limit myself. The one thing I refuse to give up is regular

salad dressing. I've tried the low-fat and fat-free and refuse to use

them. I figure I'll save on fat grams somewhere else!

Sugary drinks are bad... but maybe if you try to limit your intake

you can have a little each day.

Also, three weeks and the diet drinks will taste normal!

,

Try Dr. Pepper. It really does taste like the " Real " one. That is if you like

that one.

Soda and other sweet drinks

I can't tell you how much I relate to this. I was diagnosed with type 2

diabetes in March. I can be a pretty good diabetic, diet wise, but the thing

that I just can't seem to live without is Coke, orange soda, grape soda,

lemonade and root beer. I don't drink that much in volume per day (unless I go

to a movie), but I grew up on the stuff. I've tried every kind of diet soda

there is and I just can't tolerate it. I also drink a lot of bottled water

every day. My bg's are so good when I have water with a meal instead of soda,

but then I just crave it later. I feel like I can't give it up totally, but I

can drink less. I " m drinking a lot less than I was, but it's hell trying to cut

it out entirely.

Hi,

I agree that Diet Dr Pepper is the best tasting for me, Minute Maid

has a diet lemonade out that is real good and without carbonination.

In my area Diet Rite is made with Splenda, and it is sweet.

Joe,

This is made by Coke, I first saw it in St. Louis and in my hometown

in Cedar Rapids, Ia. You might have to ask the stores to get some

for you.

I have a can if front of me, it's " Minute Maid Light " , 10 calories, 2

carbs and no sugar. Sometimes the stores won't stock them until they

get interest. Good luck.

Maybe someone else already mentioned one of my favorite carb-cutting methods.

I have found that a smidgeon of lemonade in water makes a good substitute. We

have a dispensing machine, so I just put three squirts (less than two ounces)

into my glass and top it off with water. I think if I were to taste the

lemonade undiluted it would be pretty awful, though at one time I was used to

it. If I need a mini-infusion of carbs, this is easy and safe and fast.

I also have V8 juice. My dietician calls it " free " but I count it as a snack. I

suppose the fiber content cuts the metabolised number of carbs but it still has

carbs. It's also a credit entry on your " five a day " (or whatever your plan is)

fruit/veg allowance.

There may be better things to consume but I'm trying to construct a diet that

actually works for me in my circumstances rather than an ideal (and

unattainable) diet.
