Guest guest
Recent events brought out all of the axualliary units, the rubber gun squads (community relations & school resource officers), and every other warm body with a uniform and a badge who could help. Brought out some really bad radio, too. HQ: " Respond to point one. Escort the construction crane from staging to scene. " REGULAR: " Thirty-nine, enroute. " compared to: AUXILLARY: " Two-thirty-nine, ah, is this a, you know, one of those mobile cranes or a tower on a truck? And how fast should I lead it? Oh, and will there be other units to block intersections or do I have to .... " <grumble> Brevity is NOT a characteristic of Falls Church Sheriff's auxillary units (at least most of them) or units that don't work the streets regularly. Why? Regulars want the basics, period. Crane? Escort? Done. Auxillaries and some deputies want every detail from dispatch. How am I to know what type of crane? If you want to know how fast it can go, ask the driver when you get there. Did you hear other units assigned to block the intersections? No? Then you probably shouldn't expect any. Anybody else see a great difference in radio procedures by our part-timers and volunteers? Always take good care of yourself and yours, Calls occur randomly... all at the same time!
