Guest guest
Hello. I've been lurking here for awhile since my back started hurting 4 months ago. Let me first say that you all seem so nice and helpful, and I'm so sorry for all the pain you all have been through and are still in. I now know what some of you are experiencing and it's horrible. After fooling around for months with ice, heat, motrin and muscle relaxers, I finally had an MRI done and it shows stenosis and spondylolisthesis. I was referred to a surgeon, who I just saw this am. I'm going to try the injections first, but he said I'll probably need a laminectomy and fusion. I have been in terrible pain and take vicodin when it gets bad, but it doesn't take the pain away, just dulls it a little, then wears off in 3 hours. I was " biting the bullet " until I could get to see the surgeon, who I thought would give me more effective pain medications at least until the injections start to work, but he said he doesn't prescribe narcotics for this kind of problem. So here I am in terrible pain, and my appointment with the Pain specialist isn't for another 10 days. I'm sick of suffering. What were pain meds invented for anyway? I don't want to be a pill addict, but I don't think it's right to just let me suffer. Do you think the Pain doctor will give me something to help? I refuse to push for pain medication. If I go to another doctor then I will be " doctor shopping " . I'm sick of this unrelenting PAIN. Thanks for letting me vent and sorry this was so long. Any advice would be great. Wishing you all a pain-free 2008! Lorraine
