Jenifer, how long have you been taking thr Vit C and mmag at these doses?

If it's been a while and there have been no problems, then it is not these.

I also wouldn't be concerned about something that has occurred only for

one day.

How long has it been since you discontinued the Depakote?

C

Too much Vitamin C or Magnesium?

Hi , first off, everything is going really well. I am feeling

terrific! I do have one thing that started yesterday, I am embarrassed to

ask about it, but am wondering what it is related to. I have been having a

lot of diarrhea and gas and I am wondering if I am taking too much Vitamin C

or magnesium, or is it going off the depakote due to my blood tests, at the

request of my doctors? I am taking 1/4 teaspoon of Vitamin C four times

daily, and magnesium at 150 mg 6 times daily. I feel like I am taking up

your valuable time, away from other people who need it so much more than I

do, but thanks so much for your advice. Take care, Jenifer

Jenifer, it appears that it is the discontinuation of the Depakote. How bad

is it? Are you talking loose or watery? How often? Don't worry, we have

no shame here, lol.

Hi , it is very loose to watery, and pretty much every time I have to go to the bathroom. I don't have any stomach cramps or anything, but lots of gas with it. Yuck. Jenifer P.S. It's hard not to be embarrassed talking about such things!! Jenifer Elwanger Freedom Cockers American Cockers since 1994

** This still doesn't tell me how often. How many times a day

approximately?

** It's definitely the Depakote withdrawal, Jenifer. Hopefully, it

will continue to improve. Dribk plenty of water, take potassium (1

tab), and keep me posted daily. Thanks.

The important thing with diarrhea is to maintain electrolyte balance.

Potassium will help.

Re: Re: Too much Vitamin C or Magnesium?

Thanks . I'm still having a little trouble, 3-4 times in the

morning, and awful gas from then on, all through the night. I will start

with the potassium. Is that something you lose with diarrhea or something

that will help? Jenifer

Many happy returns, Jenifer :) Cocker spaniels are lovely dogs.

I just wanted to say that I've been there too, with the diarrhoea and

gas. Boy, the gas is a nasty one sometimes. I suspect a lot of people

on this list have been through similar experiences, at least breifly --

it seems to be part and parcel of the recovery process.

I admire the way you've been frank and open about the problem. You've

decided it's worth asking for advice and you've got it now -- do let

us know when you're feeling better.

When I've had bouts of gastro-intestinal problems, I've found it

painful, inconvenient (need a toiler nearby, or a private place to go

to let that gas escape), and even worrying. I'm so used to this

happening to different degrees, though, that I don't worry so much now.

You might be able to spot some patterns, too, if you look. I got

problems every time I increased my multivitamin; I'm guaranteed a hard

time if I drink too much vegetable juice of any kind; and the problems

also come when my cortisol is high, like in the heat we're

experiencing right now. Fortunately I know it will pass. You'll

improve over time too, and is here to help if the problem is

really troublesome.

These drugs screw up our serotonin, and serotonin levels are high in

the gastro-intestinal tract. Just our luck huh.

Hang in there Jenifer, it will get better :)

All the best,

.
