Hi all,

I haven't posted lately but always enjoy reading. I feel like we're so

related - you have to live in pain to understand so much about the person

and it's only here that I can receive that understanding.

I have a question. Has anyone else experienced this - I started on Opana

for pain relief and the first 8 days I took it, I felt great. It was an

amazing miraculous thing. Then, Day 9 - the pain comes back full force and

has not left yet. Not one bit. No matter how high my Opana input is.

Anyone else relate?

Thanks - Kate

Hi Lee,

I was diagnosed with a sliding hiatal hernia around 1985 before being diagnosed with bronchiectasis. It did not cause me any problems until the last few years. I also have GERD and had a test confirming the GERD and hiatal hernia last December. I think that all the coughing with bronch. certainly must not help. I try to eat five small meals daily and do not lie down for about 2 to 3 hours after eating. This is also helpful with lung disease. I have gallstones but hope I don't ever need surgery, especially at my age (75). There is surgery for GERD if it does not improve with a proton pump inhibitor medication. You may want to see a gastroenterologist for an opinion regarding the hernia.

Wishing you a Happy, Health Holiday,

Norma

Hi everyone

Hope you are all keeping well. As some of you know I have had problems since having my gall bladder and coughing alot. That in turn seemed to cause a thudding sound and feeling under my rib area. Well after speaking to my lung specialist he seems to think i may have a hernia there from the constant coughing. have any of you experienced this and if so what was the outcome...surgery? ??

cheers Lee

Hi All:

The latest - Barry has now received The Smart Vest by Electromed  & used it for one day, then went into the hospital for 24 hrs. to have a PICC line installed and start high dose antibiotics, etc.  He's been trying to fight the pseudomonas with oral rx, but that wasn't working.  He'll be on this protocol for 2 wks., I've now learned how to give him the rx through the PICC line, so we can travel to our daughters for Christmas.

I got off the subject, he's now used The Smart Vest for 3 days, and definitely feels it will help him to clear and keep the lungs clear.  We're not at all happy that we just stumbled over the information on the (HFCWO) Vest, when all along his Drs. office has info, and also a machine and different size vests for folks to try on.  The co. rep. used to work at the Drs. office many years ago.  I realize it's expensive, but depending on what type of insurance an individual has most of it's covered - of course, once you jump through some hoops.

Hope everyone has a peaceful and loving Holiday season.

Jackie and Barry

Lee I hate to say it BUT I too suggest its a hernia- and PLEASE don,t let it go-- they can find out with an ultra sound and a scan-- PLEASE don,t let it go--

Mine was a hernia from the gall bladder op as you know.

BUT I had a hernia on my discs and then another caused from coughing - with Whooping cough- that amounted to a huge spinal op - repaired part of the hernia- BUT the other is in spinal chord- and not able to be removed- thus the implant for pain and for stimulation.

IF it is a hernia from the latest gall bladder op- they can repair really quickly and with little or NO side effects.

BUT left to go- well you end up with ongoing saga of more and more problems and more and more hernias.

I am home now yes waiting on results of whether I have to now face having a colostomy bab- due to the bowel being so mucked up by the 2 1/2 year old Hernia-- had to have the ribs cut and bowl worked on etc.

NOW still having fleet enemas daily- and other stuff and soft to fluid diet etc still no go--

IF your doc won,t send you for ultra sound and or scan- then go elsewhere- DO not let go.

Whooping cough caused me my first probs BUT that was 15 years or so ago and got well- this gall bladder one well whole different story,.

AND being a cougher- with bronch- of course does give them all more excuses to say wasn,t their fault--

In the old days they bound you to help-- modern days they don,t HOWEVER it was suggested to me at the Prince and the RBH to have myseff bound- for a while- as the asthma cough gets me a lot now since surgery.

Physiotherapists do sell the corset type too.

BUT don,t use it before you get it seen to ASAP- so then NO more probs.

They also do say one you have had a hernia, you are always going to be prone to them so got to really take much more care- with washing, vaccing, lifting shopping etc.

Hugs again

Sandy

Hi Sandy

Saw my gp yesterday and he said that when i had the barium ct 2 months ago there was no sign of a hernia. he is saying its the valve and I am getting bile into the lungs when i sleep. i tried laying flat last night to experiment and I got such an awful taste in my mouth this morning and heartburn so I am thinking he is right. Also have changed from the accuhaler to the aerosol seretide so hope that helps as it wont be as harsh on my windpipe. I do have adhesions on the gall bladder are and he said that as I bled alot its very possible cos blood can cause adhesions

hi Lee,just re using Seretide - do wash/rinse have good drink of water, gargle AND a good dry cough to clear any residue from back of throat - which is what eventually causes hoarseness, and possibly oral candida.  I've been using 18 mths, no side effects.  If i do, I just do a few days on Fungilin lozenges (scrip) & problem fixed - can tell if tongue whitish coat, metallic taste, maybe cracking inside lips if severe - but the latter happens to me just cos run-down when have exacerbation.  Also best if use spacer - prevents build-up of residue in throat.wish i had some other ideas to help....but at least hope this does a bit, wishing you a restful xmas, not too much to do...?hugs Joy4038 2770endiandra@...

hi Lee, gawd it's bad enough inhaling water/food etc (which I seem to do far too frequently...) but bile!!!  not what you want.  If you find sleeping uncomfortable on pillows, can you get someone to put a brick (or something) under head of your bed so it's still flat but on a slope?  I found this didn't end up with worse back troubles....  just a thought Happy breathing  JJoy -- -- "Wealth is nothing, position is nothing, fame is nothing.Who you become inside is everything. What happens to you is not as important as how you react to what happens."
