Guest guest
There's a great little story called "the spoon theory" on a young lady's website, who has Lupus. Of course she has Lupus but her spoon theory could be applied to any chronic illness like ours. I liked the story sooo much, I forwarded the website address to many people, last year lol! If you want me to find the site, I can. The girl was trying to explain her illness, or rather what it does to her; makes her disabled, to her friend. She said she was shocked, after all this time of her friend knowing she is sick, when they were sitting in a cafe one day and her friend still just didn't get it. So - she immedicately came up with this little spoon story, and I guess that really helped her friend to understand. Of course for your own spoon stories, we could say we start the day with 12 spoons or 3... I have been having many 3 spoon days for a long time now, and I think that is largely due to the Fibro. Ok now I have to find the site... wait a minute... http://www.butyoudontlooksick.com/ Here is the main website and here is the story http://www.butyoudontlooksick.com/spoons.htm Her spoon story became quite popular so she is pretty well-known in the Lupus world now. But as I say - her story applies to anyone with Lupus, FM or many diseases. ;-) For those wanting to share how difficult our lives are to our families and friends, maybe you can print out the story and mail it to them. It's a simple story but helps the "norms" to understand it a little better.... xxo li ----- Original Message ----- Thank you for that . You are such a gifted writer and put your thought down on paper so well. I am forwarding this to a few friends and family members.
Guest guest
Oh, I'm so glad you know where to find that story. I read it about a month ago on another site, then the site went bye-bye, and I couldn't find that dern spoon story anymore. Now that I have a printer I can give that story to my dumb family when they say dumb things. Hugs, > There's a great little story called " the spoon theory " on a young lady's website, who has Lupus. Guest guest
lol! Yes... and for me; I understand what she means about starting with 12 spoons, although really for a while now I often have a lot of 6 spoon days. Be sure to remind your family there are 3 spoon or 5 spoon or 12 spoon days - just depends! I had I think 1 spoon days 10 years ago when I couldn't even wipe my own butt; the joint pain was so bad in my hands and wrists. Back when it was just mostly joint pain and fatigue [and side effects from meds], I had a lot of 12 spoon days though...and I think that is what she [] was mostly going through. Some days now, you can use up 6 spoons just trying to get going in the mornings. :-P xo li ----- Original Message ----- Oh, I'm so glad you know where to find that story.
