Guest guest
, see my other post today about 10% reductions. Guest guest
Dear , You said: <<This is my first post and I just want to say how incredibly happy I am to be here - the information here is SO helpful, and my life has improved immensely in the little time I've been reading. Question: any advice on withdrawing from Effexor and Seroquel? As I've always been since my early 20s when I was diagnosed with " depression " and " PTSD " I have been blindly trusting my psychiatrist. I've only recently found my personal power, and trusted my instincts on how to create my own positive living enviornment and therefore brain chemistry. So, recently, *strongly against his advice* I made the decision to get off of my meds (full cocktail: wellbutrin 300mg; seroquel 100mg; effexor 75mg and cipralex 10mg). At my insistence he gave me a withdrawl schedule, but of course no herbal supplemental tips or other tips to get off them and minimize symptoms, just " you'll be back in my office in a few weeks suicidally depressed if you don't listen to me. " >> ** Correction, if you listen to him you'l be back in his office suicidally depressed and psychotic. The reduction schedule you've been given insures that. 1st, you have to wait a while since you went off the Seroquel so abruptly. You have not yet seen the effects of that. You said: <<anyway, for 1 week now I've decreased seroquel to 25 mg - no side effects, so he said just get off it (last night was first night in 2 years I had none) then yesterday he said just get off effexor too, all at once (so last night first time without effexor too) I am still to take wellbutrin for 2 weeks: 300mg this week, 150 next week then 0 I am still to take cipralex for 3 weeks - 10mg for next 2 weeks, 5mg the last week then 0>> ** This is a recipe for disaster. Thousands of people before you have proven this. I'm not going to mince words with you. Here's how you can safely do this. 1) Do not discontinue anythnig else right now and reinstate the Effexor. 2) Wait. You will feel withdrawal from the Seroquel. In fact, my advice to you would be to reinstate this, too. 3) Choose 1 drug, decrease it by 10%. Do any necessary dietary changes (See Eating For Recovery in files). Wait at least 3 weeks. If you are completely stable, do another 10% decrease on that one drug. Continue this way. Having said that I want to let you know that I have the sense you are going to reject this and continue as you are doing right now. Let me arn you that this can lead tyo more damage than has already been done by the drugs and will lead to long term disability. Note I said " WILL " not might. This is not fearmongering. It is the plain and simple truth. In cases like yours where people are taking multiple psychotropic drugs, things are very complex -- too complex to work this way (through email). I recommend private consultation for this. Many here can attest to this. You said: <<I am now getting headaches, and although I'm taking lecithin supplements and multivitamins and b-complex I'm nervous that I'm not doing everything I can - I'm also eating VERY well because of a brilliant article posted on this board about treating food as medicine, not for pleasure, etc.....>> ** You're getting headaches from droping so much of the Seroquel at one time. This is only the tip of the iceberg so to speak. B Vitamins taken separately can create anxiety in people who take or have taken spychotropic drugs. The pathways involved in metabolizing B vitamins are the same pathways that metabolize or partly metabolize some psychotropic drugs. The drugs damage these pathways. The only things I would recommend to you without having the info I get from people in private consultations is that magnesium and fish oil will be helpful. Don't take the mag if you have a disgnosed kidney disorder (you may still be able to take it but it would require more info to ascertain this). There are plenty of people here who can tell you that they also thought they could do this in the way you have planned. Their mistakes can be your blessing if you heed their experiences. Guest guest
Hi (and everyone), Thank you, especially for the direct honesty. I am now curious: how did you have the sense that I would continue as I was on my psychiatrist schedule without heeding your advice? (of course you were right, until another call to the psychiatrist who told me to call the drug companies to confirm his advice, and email correspondence with you which thankfully brought me to my senses again). I am sorry that I doubted you, and everyone here. Fear seems to be driving me these days, but I'm realizing there's no room for fear here. This is my health, it's very serious, and it's been toyed with enough until now. Okay, so I took 75mg of Effexor and 25mg of Seroquel when I got home at 6pm (usually I take them before bed, but it had been 2 going on 3 days I hadn't had anything so I took them right away. I'm guessing I can slowly work back up to my regular bedtime with these now? It's no coincidence that my headache is now gone and I crashed asleep shortly after taking those pills now is it...I didn't consciously realize any side effects while I was on the drugs. I feel like I've been hypnotized for the past 2 years! My next step then is to get a consultation with to see what (if any) more vitamins I can take. Shall I post my history here? I'd really really like to hear anybody's experience withdrawing from these drugs/similar drugs. I am particularly interested in what long- term damage can be done...is there any literature on risks in this area??? My psychiatrist says it's all hooey and there's no risk of getting off these drugs immediately because they're all at such low doses. Wow. How confusing. I hadn't realized this was so complex. I'd love to hear from anyone? Blessings and love, > > Dear , > > > You said: > > > <<This is my first post and I just want to say how incredibly happy I > am to be here - the information here is SO helpful, and my life has > improved immensely in the little time I've been reading. > > Question: any advice on withdrawing from Effexor and Seroquel? What happens is called a cholinergic rebound. There is plenty of literature on the dangers of an over-activated cholinergic nervous system. But I'm not here to explore this from an intellectual perspective. I did that years ago. Now, my efforts are spent helping people survive their experiences with psychiatry. I also spend no time at all trying to convince a psychiatrist of what I'm saying. bY prescribing these drugs they have already proven their inability to critically evaluate anything as well as their lack of understanding of biochemistry. Their ignorance is appalling. Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for the prompt and detailed reply. I didn't even think that some of the drugs people talk about and I don't recognize would be similar to mine. I have now done some research and see what you mean (the groups of drugs, for instance). I really appreciate the info about cholinergic rebound too and can't wait to find out more about it. Thanks for being patient with my intellectual approach, also. I find I need to learn all I can before committing to it at a deeper level. I know you are VERY busy (probably with more urgent matters) but whenever you can, if you don't mind, would you be able to answer a few queries here until I hear from you for an appointment?: I especially need to know how much fish oil and magnesium I should be taking, and more importantly whether I should go back up to 50mg of seroquel right now (recall I was at 100mg, went off for 2 days, had major headaches, then only had a few 25 mg pills for the weekend so had no choice but one 25mg pill/day...I can get more now, but I am choosing to wait for your reply before ordering more prescribed dope. I am really hoping you'll say stay at 25mg, because I'm no longer experiencing ANY negative side effects, but you know best about the long term damage, i.e. whether dropping 50mg at once is a bad idea. I will move back up to 50mg, just say the word. p.s. kindly recall that my psychiatrist will not give me a list of everything I have taken over the past 3 years until late Friday of this week, so consider whether we have to wait until then to have an appointment? I can then send the completed form you require prior to appts. > > Dear , > > > > You said: > > > > Hi (and everyone), > > Thank you, especially for the direct honesty. How are you able to sort out the reaction you are having to ther lack of Effexor from the reaction to dropping the Seroquel? If you really elieve all you need is 25 mg, then go ahead and do this. When looking for generic recommendations on things like magnesium and fish oil until more specific ones can be made, look atb the document titled Basic Healing Protocol found in the FILES section. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Withdrawal_and_Recovery/files ** With mag, try 200 mg 3 to 4x a day. Fish oil -- at least 3000 mg (3g) a day. > > p.s. kindly recall that my psychiatrist will not give me a list of > everything I have taken over the past 3 years until late Friday of > this week, so consider whether we have to wait until then to have an > appointment? So, if you could just send your history form and times of availability we can set an appointment. You can provide the list of srugs later separately. Thanks. Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for the reply. I think you may have misunderstood? I did not drop effexor and seroquel simultaneously. I went back on my regular dose of effexor per your advice, then because I only had 25mg of seroquel left (to tide me over the weekend) I stayed on 25mg. I then thought we'd have an appt so waited but we got delayed so I just stayed as I was - I am trying not to be stubborn. Rather, I remember you saying over and over again in the posts to " listen to yourself " and I was doing fine on 25mg seroquel, the rest of the cocktail no changes, so I decided to stay until we talked. You have also said there is a 6 week window so I thought to myself: " if says dropping 50 is a bad idea, then I'll go back up after we talk because I still have time. " what should I do now? thanks so much for your time, sincerely, > > > > Hi , > > Thanks for the prompt and detailed reply.
