Something similar to what Susie from Northern Alberta did. I'm not just sure but is decompression that Susie had the same as Middle Fossa Surgery Marie? You MOST definitely want an expert, experienced at doing this. Guest guest Posted March 7, 2000 Report Share Posted March 7, 2000 A decompression and a middle fossa are different; a decompression is when the tumor is too big to remove without resulting deafness; they actually drill a hole in the IAC, hoping the tumor grows up or releaves pressure against the brainstem, giving you longer to hear. Guest guest Posted March 8, 2000 Report Share Posted March 8, 2000 Dee-Ann, You need to see Dr. Oldring in Edmonton and ask him of Susie's situation, ask him to send you to HEI, in fact he'll probably suggest it as he did with me, and there you would probably see Dr. Brackmann, who Dr. Oldring knows quite well. Dr. Brackmann is in Los Angeles and Alberta Government is paying for this. I suggest you ask for a referral to Edmonton to see Dr. Oldring who has sent people for this before and has more knowledge about the AN's as he trained for awhile at HEI and Is one, if not the best in the country to help you with this. You sound like mild hearing loss. If you send your phone number I can call you this evening and go over this with you. We picked up alot of info in LA when I had surgery and appointments there and Dr. Oldring is very helpful too. The reason for having this done in LA is if you should go deaf during this procedure they could put in the ABI. There is alot of government red tape to this . Dr. Oldring can help smooth all this out. I'll send Susie's address next post. Keep in mind a new model of the ABI is coming out within THIS year . Your mom I'm sure has some thoughts on this. Cyst healed itself and caused big problems, which Brackman thought was post surgical swelling. When I got another MRI (at my insistence), he said get out here fast. So in April 99 I had another debulking in which they took all of the cyst; unfortunately, in less than a year the area which was formerly cyst has all filled up with solid tumor; so off I go again to LA, and this time they say they will try to take 75% of the tumor; Brackman knows I am not ready to sacrifice my hearing, but this obviously can't go on much longer. RIGHT NOW I HAVE ONE TUMOR IN EACH EAR. I HAVE A MODERATE HEARING LOSS IN MY LEFT EAR AND MILD IN MY RIGHT. ON TOP OF THIS NF2 I WAS BORN LEGALLY BLIND IN BOTH EYES. SO FOR ME, MY HEARING IS EVERYTHING. I AM REALLY HOPING FOR A CURE TO NF2, BECAUSE I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO LIP READ OF SIGN. THE REASON I AM ON HERE IS TO FIND OUT AS MUCH AS I CAN. The message thread I'm replying too was taking up to 45 seconds to load because it had almost 4 pages of HTML text. If your mail reader sends HTML, please do all of us who don't support HTML a favor and send your messages as plain text. Thanks! Sometimes, when I reply it sends just the part I copy and other times, I've received mail that I've replied to and it has the whole message, even though i selected just a part. So, I'm stumped! ( So, any help you could give me, if I'm having the problem, would be very appreciated. I don't like being a nuisance. For programs like outlook/outlook express/netscape/eudora/whatever you favourite mailer is besides AOL, simply reply to the whole thing, then in your reply take an extra 10 seconds and delete the part that doesn't need to be repeated (ie, hilight it with your mouse or by pressing shift and an arrow key, and then hit delete). And June, I don't think Pete was talking about you ... you seem to do a very conscietious job of not including too much. =) And how much is too much? Quoting anything more than the previous post may be considered too much, and even that may be too much if it's a long post, or if your reply is shorter than the amount you are quoting. Capiche? By the way, I was using a very old version of Eudora. I was OK except I could not manage may mailboxes well. MS Exchange is very good for moving e-mails around because it has the same structure as MS Windows Exporer. I also update my very old very of Netscape. The new version is much better.
