After nagging Magnus' pediatrician for several days, I got a referralto a neurosurgeon, at Tulane University Hospital in New Orleans. Wedrove the 3 hours to N.O. yesterday, met with Dr. Walsh (head of thecraniofacial team at Tulane) and had x-raysdone. The doc says 8 month-old Magnus has a mild to moderate case ofplagiocephaly and the x-rays showed open sutures with plenty of roomleft to grow, i.e. time for correction. He now wants Magnus toundergo an MRI to rule out any underlying abnormalities. He hintedthat he half expects to find excessive fluid around the skull becauseMagnus has such a large head. His head circumference is in the 98thpercentile while is weight and length are in the 95th. Would someone please tell me what this doctor is looking for? I don'tunderstand why the MRI is

necessary.I also found out that Hanger O & P is the dominant presence inLouisiana. I've read about one of the member's experience with Hangerin NYC, but does anyone have anything positive to say about theirother offices? I can't find any information on the locations ofOrthoamerica offices, and the nearest CT office is in Houston, fourhours away. For more plagio info

It sounds like your Dr may be concerned about hydrocephaly, I belive that's the correct word & spelling for fluid on the brain. He may also want to be 100% certain that there is no premature fusion of the skull bones, even though the Xrays do show his sutures are still open, many drs prefer a 3D CT scan or MRI to be 100% sure. But I'd suggest calling the Dr again tomorrow to know for sure just what he's concerned about. It's hard to speculate.

You can go to www.orthomerica.com , you can search areas on their website for what facilities in your area provide the STARband. Hopefully we'll have another member in your area who can help you too.

Good luck, please keep us posted. Debbie Abby's mom DOCGrad MIsascarce <sascarce@...> wrote:

I used Hanger in Kansas City missouri. Our experience was absolutely wonderful. We had a wonderful and VERY experienced ortho. Jenna didn't have any scans done so I am sorry I don't know what they are looking for.Good luck with your decision. Angie and Jenna (STAR grad ) saw a neuro in New Orleans--Hanger O & P?
