Guest guest
Hello Fellow Crewbies, I'm interested in what various centers/hospitals provide for care. For example, at HEI they made a small incision in my stomach to withdraw some fat and this was put in the AN surgery site for packing, I believe. I awoke to find my legs in support hose and around this was something like plastic cases that had wires, this I was told was to prevent clots. My head was tightly wrapped and under this, above the incision, was what was a very thick 1 " pad. This was called a pressure bandage, I believe. Before surgery I was given a 'happy shot' first by the anaesthetists? then he put in the IV. I was on a stretcher during this, then taken to a room and my head shaved. Later I was wheeled into the operating room and lifted off the stretcher on to a very narrow table. Then the group of medical staff moved very quickly into action. Some were helping with anasthetic, everyone was moving and suddenly it was goodnight Sheryn. When I came to there was no tube in my mouth, no shunt, and I was lieing in a regular hopital bed in intensive care with my very own nurse at a small table at the end of my bed. I had decided to have my 1.5 cm N, (for a few years prior it had been .7 cm) taken out to hopefullyprotect myself from damage. I had been deaf on that side for 13 years. I had heard that although there was no palsy after surgery, you were not really free of the possibility till at least nine days after surgery. Everything was as it had been prior to surgery till the next morning. Then it looked like someone had pulled down an inch of my face on my surgery side. I had no moisture in my eye and it would not close. It took 6 months, then everything began to slowly recover. I had spent 4 days in the hospital and 3 at Seton Hall. There was no therapy offered here in Sask. when I returned home. I had had 5 surgeries before at other locations. (4 for a Brainstem Glioma and 1 for a meningioma). This was done in Feb, '97. What can you tell me about your AN surgeries? Sheryn in Sask., where we are having beautiful weather!
