Guest guest
, You are so lucky! I have 6 kids and only 2 of them were good sleepers like your baby. Don't worry 15 hours a day isn't too much sleep for a 4 mth old. Tell hubby not to worry. > I know this is a little off the topic but I need some advise... > > I am very fortunate to have a 4 month old that sleeps through the > night. Guest guest
You sound just like me a year ago. slept from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., and had 3 naps during the day. The longest she was ever able to stay up between naps was 1.5 hours. We worried that something was wrong also, but looking back I realize a lot of it was caused by growth spurts. She grew so quickly her first year. Now she sleeps from 9:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. and has one 2 hour nap in the afternoon. Before I felt like I couldn't go anywhere because there was always a nap to catch. Now I feel like I can't stay home because is awake and ready to do stuff & (16 months, STARband Grad) > I know this is a little off the topic but I need some advise... > > I am very fortunate to have a 4 month old that sleeps through the > night. Guest guest
I also used to worry when would have so many naps. I even called my doctor and they said as long as he was eating ok and was being himself than it was fine. But I was still worried so I checked on the internet for some info. I found this on AmericanBaby.com. I'm cutting and pasting so hopefully you'll be able to see it. THey also have one for how much your baby should be eating. I was worried about that even more because until recently, still wanted to drink only 4-5 oz. Now he drinks between 5 1/2 - 6 oz. at 6 mo. old. Guest guest
I haven't read anyone's advice yet about this but my first thought was well, maybe he needs it?? Another thought is to see if he is getting enough food to eat. Sometimes babies that sleep a lot are fatigued? At the very least, call your doctor with your thoughts - since infants cannot tell us what is wrong we need to read the cues from their bodies. I'd definitely check it out for the very least to have peace of mind. Caroline
Guest guest
Be very thankful you have a " sleeper " . When my forst was born, I was given the book " Healthy sleep Habits, Happy Child " by Mark Weisblum(?) which stresses lots of uninterupted sleep for a happy, adaptable child. It also shows graphs of how much day & night sleep a child at each month should get. My twins are 12.5 mos and sleep ~11.5 hrs at night and get 2 2+hr naps during the day. We're probably on the high end of sleep total. But everyone comments that they are such happy babies. No tantrums in stores, not crabby, always smiling, etc. I can only think it's because of the sleep. Their naps really help my sanity too! Good luck! Guest guest
Ah, yes...melatonin. I've used that before and it does help reset disrupted sleep patterns. I'd like to mention, however, that it can, and certainly did with me, induce extremely vivid dreams. Mind you, I have vivid dreams (always have) and when taking the Melatonin they really kicked up several knotches. They weren't nightmares or anthing gory, just "out there" and vivid in color and detail. I was so impressed with some of them I'd attempt to draw some of the scenes and write down some of the "story lines". I don't take it now, and didn't stop because of the dreams, I just got to the point that I didn't need it anymore. Not trying to discourage taking it, and I don't know if it causes vivid dreams in everyone, but if you do take it, and your dreams increase as well as the vividness, it could be from the melatonin. From everything I've read and heard, it has a lot of other good benefits in addition to restoring good sleep habits - is a great antioxident too. , just curious, did you notice any change in your dream habits when taking it? G [ ] sleep schedule Hi Lynn, I'd hate to add another pill to your regime but thought I would suggest something that has helped me when my sleep cycles have gotten messed up (assuming you are not awakening because of pain or something physical). I learned this from a doctor and I've used it while traveling but also when I had some difficulty staying asleep due to menopausal hormones. If I have problems falling asleep or staying asleep, I take a melatonin tablet at bedtime. Usually I am back on track within 1-3 days and so it is a short course solution. There are no real long term studies on melatonin use so you don't want to take it every night for years. However I gave it to my son at age 7 for about 3 months when he was wetting his bed and having night terrors and it "cured" him with no adverse effects. You could google "melatonin" before making your own decision on whether you want to try it. Good luck - there is nothing on this planet that pulls me down more than lack of sleep!
