Guest guest
Hi ,…….thanks for your prayers too! J I am better today/night and am breathing easier. I still have a little cough, but I am thinking I had a virus, and it is starting to work its way out. I use to have an inhaler but I didn’t like the effects of the meds, and I never asked for a different one. I think I may have to have one on hand, as it gets a little scary at times when things get really congested. I use to have bronchitis a lot when I smoked back in the 80’s, and I probably did some damage to my lungs, so whenever I get sick it likes to settle there. Been worse the last few years though. I also have a mycoplasma pneumonia that lays dormant until something triggers it. I think allergies might do that along with a virus. The only reason I hesitate going to the Dr. when I am flaring or have a virus is because in the early years of my MS, when I didn’t know what it was, I was at the Dr. for every little symptom. I got so tired of them telling me they didn’t know what was wrong, I guess I got a little gun shy about going then, and wasting my time. So I have a tendency to wait it out now, and hope it gets better on its own. I agree with you about the second guessing ourselves. That is pretty frustrating to me too. I have been fighting this thing for awhile, and it keeps coming back, I thought I should see my Dr., in case it was a complication from the MS. I will be going to the OHSU MS clinic soon, and will have an evaluation to see if my diaphragm muscles are causing the congestion to stay chronic. Anyhow, sorry didn’t mean to get so long winded there, but thank you again! I like am knew to this but I am sending my prayers to you. As a nurse I'll tell you this, if you have difficulty breathing pain in exhaling or inhaling, can't draw a full breath, then yes you may have pneumonia and if you are having problems breathing do not hesitate to go to the ER to get help. There are a lot of inhalant meds they c9ould give you you to open your airways. Excuse my fingers, they get tangled when I type. Just remember, you are your best judge, if you don't feel RIGHT, then something IS wrong. I think that is the one thing about this disease that is soo aggravating is it makes you second guess yourself or think your overreacting when there really is a problem. Hugs! I don't really have much to offer because I'm so new at this MS stuff, but it certainly sounds like going to the doctor is a wise choice. It may just be that you need to change your allergy meds or begin allergy shots. (My niece has severe seasonal allergies and takes shots for them because the pills stopped working after a few years) If it is something else, then hopefully it is something that you can shake off and get through with no worse symptoms. At any rate, best of luck at your Dr.s appt. and if you feel like it, keep us updated, as I will be thinking and praying for you tonight. Hi everyone,……when it talks about someone dying of complications from MS what exactly do they mean by that? Also, how do you know when you need to go to the hosp? There are so many ongoing symptoms with me, and they can be really bad one day, and practically non existent the next. If I went to the hosp every time I had a symptom flare, I’d be there all the time. But, then again I don’t want to take something going on with me and ignore it if it can lead to a complication. For example, I have been having congestion in my lungs off and on for a few years. I just figured it was allergy related, but lately I’ve been taking allergy meds, and it doesn’t seem to be helping. So I’m not sure if it is allergy related now? I have some problem with the muscles on the right side of my diaphragm, and the Dr. said it doesn’t move the same as the left. She thought there was some paralysis set in. I am having a hard time taking a deep breath, and when I do it hurts. I am assuming it is pneumonia, and will be calling the Dr. in the morning. In the meantime I thought I’d ask those of you who have progressive symptoms if you have experienced breathing problems? I am assuming this might be a complication of MS? I don’t mean to scare anyone, and I want all of you to know I have been dealing with MS for 25 years now, and I’ve only been hospitalzed 2x’s I think. So please don’t worry that what I have going on will happen to you. Remember we all are different, and some of us will progress, and others won’t. In my case my progression has been slow, but now that I am older I was wondering if I might not be able to fight off infections as well, and will need to be hospitalized? What do you all think?
