Guest guest
Dear Derrick Welcome back, I hope your PC now behaves itself. I am sorry that your results are not so good this time, and feeling depressed about it is entirely understandable. It is never easy for anyone to handle news like this, but you can be assured of all the support you need from us here in the group, so if you need a place to unload here is the place to do it. Don't suffer in silence Derrick, having suffered depression myself, I know you can feel very alone during the not so good times. Once again it is good to hear from you again. Take care ok. UK My latest lab results Hi there Pierre and the group, I have had a few computer problems over the past couple of months, I think I am back on the air again. My latest lab results are depressing in that they show a definite degradation. Potassium is 6.2mmol/L (24mg/dL) too high cause by Atacand. This has resulted in being taken off atacand. BP control is not so good, 139/95 being too high. Serum Creatinine 0.54mmol/L (6.1mg/dL) again creeping up towards ESRD. A plot of the reciprocal of results indicates the end of this year, so I am a little depressed at the rate things are going. Here's hoping this email finds its way! Guest guest
, Seems computers are a bit like our kidneys - we take them for granted when they are working, its only when things start to go wrong we realise how valuable they are. Take care, Frances It's absolutely boiling here today, don't know how all you lot put up with this heat all the time - it just makes me want to sleep
Guest guest
, Thanks for that, I suppose I have been fortunate to get to where I am at at my age with IGAN. It is on my mind more now though, even though I try to live in the now. I know how important BP control is with IGAN and having to come off the one drug which contolled it well is cause for concern to me. I have started making preparation re work for the inevitable. On the bright side it seems I have fixed my computer, my email is working OK again. I had a hard disk crash, it has taken some resurecting to recover the information. Computers are great when they are working but when they go wrong, it makes you realise just how much we rely on them today. Guest guest
Hi Derrick. Did they add or increase anything else when the stopped the atacand? Personally, I would be more worried being on it than not on it at this stage. I also was just taken off Avapro a couple of weeks ago (Avapro is similar to Atacand). There comes a point where that class of drugs and ACE inhibitors may do more harm than good anyway. I had to phone my nephrologist Friday because my BP crept up to around 160/100, so she said to restart the diuretic - but, interestingly, not the Avapro. I agree it's depressing sometimes, but what can you do except make the best of it. Guest guest
Pierre, The dose of Tenormin has been increased but it has not worked as well as Atacand did. I had real problems controlling BP until Atacand came along and it worked like a charm. I guess it is back to the drawing board until I find the right combination again. Your comment about Atacand is interesting though, I thought Atacand was OK except for the fact it causes and increase it potassium. I'll bounce back in a couple of weeks when I accept the situation. Thanks for your comments - food for thought. Guest guest
Francis, Absolutely spot on. Guest guest
You might want to ask your neph if a diuretic might be appropriate. My own experience has been that, once you start getting into more advanced renal failure, a loop diuretic like furosemide is almost a necessity to effectively control BP as part of the mix of meds. You strike me as the kind of person who would bounce back, Derrick : ) I know for me the key is to just accept it, because, I mean, once you get past a certain level, it's pretty much inevitable no matter what. Guest guest
Sorry to hear about your lab results, Derrick. It must be difficult knowing that you are closer to ESRF. My kidney function is still at 100%, so I can't say that I totally understand what you're going through, but, as you know, there are many people in the group in a similar situation to yourself, so I'm sure that others will be able to relate to what you're feeling. derrickhartl wrote: Hi there Pierre and the group, I have had a few computer problems over the past couple of months, I think I am back on the air again. Guest guest
Thanks Jennie, Just a temporary lapse. Time will tell. Guest guest
Derrick, Our thoughts are with you during this time and our prayers will be that you join Pierre in his 5 year (minimum) quest to stay off of dialysis. I'm not yet to that stage, but my heart goes out to you as you emotionally work though this. I know that even though we think that we're somewhat prepared, we just are not prepared for the " short straw " . We will be here to support you however we can...Connie, USA My latest lab results Hi there Pierre and the group, I have had a few computer problems over the past couple of months, I think I am back on the air again.
