Dear Pat,

You said:

<<I have a question after reading the file on magnesium.

Is it necessary to take calcium as well as magnesium? I am very prone to

constipation and would prefer to just take the magnesium. (I find I can't

even eat yogurt often because of this).>>

** I think you'll find this constipation is a result of a lack of

magnesium.

Try 3 doses a day of 300 mg each dose. We'll wait a bit but I think

you'll be able to add calcium after that.

** Dinah, mag citrate is widely available online. Mag oxide is

the poorest form of mag existing.

I recommend mag these mag types (most preferable to least

preferable):

Taurate

Chloride

Malate

Gluconate

Citrate

Asporotate

Dear ,

You said:

<<, you told me to try dosing with 200mg of magnesium,

dissolved in water, every hour until 5 p.m.

I've done that today. Early this afternoon I felt a little giddy, and

a few times I've felt very warm, right to the tips of my ears (beats

being cold all the time). Mood has been pretty good. No huge changes,

but overall I'd say I feel a little better. Mind you, I'm looking at

the possibility of stopping light therapy and letting my body heal

properly, and that change of mindset has made me feel excited and

positive too. >>

Okay, this confirms my suspicions that you are deficient in

magnesium. How much do you normally currently take per day?

After I wrote that post, I found that I felt really mellow and

upbeat that evening, even though I'd stopped the magnesium at 5 p.m.

I felt the same when I woke up this morning. It stopped not long

after I had my morning supplements.

I take those supplements at 7 or 8 a.m. They include a mulitvitamin

with 200mg calcium and 100mg magnesium. I also take a 250mg calcium

citrate tablet.

At 11 a.m. I take 200mg magnesium citrate.

At 2 p.m. I take another 200mg magnesium.

At 6 p.m. I take another 250mg calcium.

At 10 p.m. I take my colloidal minerals, which includes about 400mg

each of magnesium and calcium.

I have been taking the calcium with meals because it gives me gastro-

intestinal upset on an empty stomach. I've tried to work the

magnesium around that.

The mag is about £8 for a bottle of 60 tablets, and part of me

doesn't want to overdo it because costs go up. I know that's not the

right attitude towards healing though. If you think I need more I'll

take it. I quite liked how I felt last night :)

Thanks,

.

** Ok,this is an indication that you're not absorbing magnesium

well.

Cut out all calcium except that which is in the multi.

Add 1/2 of a mag tab (125 mg) hourly until 5pm. Let me know hoe

you feel.

I'm not sure about a link, but I can tell you what's on the label.

Dicalcium phosphate, magnesium oxide, maltodextrin, potassium

chloride, cellulose, ascorbic acid, ferrous fumarate, croscarmellose

sodium, hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, nicotinamide, zinc oxide,

vitamin E acetate, silicon dioxide, calcium pantothenate, modified

maize starch, magnesium stearate, sucrose, colours (titanium

dioxide, iron oxide), gelatin, talc, manganese sulphate, stearic

acid, maize starch, pyridoxine hydrochloride, copper sulphate,

thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin, vitamin A acetate, mannitol,

acacia, peanut oil, folic acid, potassium iodide, soya oil, biotin,

chromic sulphate, antioxidant (tocopherol), sodium selenite, vitamin

K, vitamin D3, vitamin B12

Actually I've never looked at that before. Why on earth are there

sugars, and peanut oil and soy oil, in a tablet you swallow . . . ?

Here are the vitamin amounts:

vitamin A 800ug

vitamin D 5ug

vitamin E 10mg

vitamin C 60mg

thiamin 1.4 mg

riboflavin 1.6 mg

niacin 18mg

vitamin B6 2mg

folic acid 200ug

vitamin B12 1ug

biotin 150ug

pantothenic acid 6mg

calcium 200mg

phosphorus 145mg

iron 14mg

magnesium 100mg

zinc 15mg

iodine 150ug

vitamin K 20ug

copper 1000ug

manganese 1mg

chromium 25ug

selenium 25ug

potassium 40mg

chloride 36mg

I first started taking this multi for the full RDA of zinc it

contains. I discovered you can get a zinc supplement, but I thought

taking a multivitamin was probably a good idea.

I will also follow your advice on the magnesium tomorrow, though

half a tab is 100mg not 125mg (don't suppose it matters much).

Thanks for you help,

.

Yes I can see that, but what should I look for, what should I get?

I can't get anything similar to Body Toddy here. I've asked several

times what people in the UK take but I think maybe none of them were

around at the time and didn't see my messages.

I can start taking a separate zinc supplement. I already supplement

B (50mg of many of them), C, D3, and iron. Many of the other

minerals are in my mineral toddy. Maybe I'd be OK getting that brand

I found with the amino acids and fruit/veg extracts, that doesn't

acutally contain many vitamins?

This is getting to be a real bugbear and I'd feel relieved to

finally get it sorted.

About the magnesium, I took 100mg dissolved in water every hour

until 5, like you told me. From mid-morning I started feeling very

upbeat and motivated to do things, and a bit giddy again, and warm,

particularly in my face and ears. I was positively roasting last

night. Had trouble getting to sleep, but that might have been due to

the shock of not having any light therapy. Sometimes it's hard to

figure out what's causing the way I feel. I've had heart

palpitations off and on too, but I think that's very likely the

effect of no light therapy as well.

By the way, I'm very pleased to say that I'm not having the negative

reaction to that which I feared. Sleep was a little rocky but not

too bad; I got out of bed OK; I've been functioning all this time.

I'm just a little frayed and fragile, but I can cope with that.

If I didn't know any better I'd say you guys worked magic here. No

potato, no light therapy, and I'm fine . . . what next? LOL.

Many thanks ,

.

It's withdrawal. And you're working actively

> to heal from it!

I'm sorry to make you have to hammer the point home like this Kim. I

promise I will keep that in mind from now on. The more I learn about

these drugs, the more I see your point.

I was just trying to separate things out for because she

has been having me dose up on magnesium and wanted to know how I

felt. Usually I go straight to sleep because I'm so very tired. Also

the regular heart palpitations have only been a recent feature, but

I'm not bothering about them and they will go away. It's wasting my

energy to try to figure ouot what's causing them because at the

bottom of it is my body tyring to heal.

I was very clear-headed this morning, much of the leadenness was

gone from my body, and I had a reminder of what it is like to see

the world through the eyes of someone whose biochemistry isn't

messed up. This is really exciting :)

, suggested a Garden of Life product to me several

weeks back, can't remember what it was now, but I seem to remember I

couldn't find an internet supplier of GOL in the UK. Maybe I need to

be more determined with my searches. There must be SOMETHING good here

that I can take, LOL.

Many thanks,

I have a problem with a dose- they come here (UK) in high doses- as to

taurate: a dose of 915mg. You suggested a dose 200mg twice a day at the

start. Should I try higher one?

** It's not really 915 mg. The only thing that counts is the

elemental magnesium in a product. I'm willing to guess that the

elemental mag in the one you're looking at is somewhere between 70

and 170 mg. If it is not on the bottle, ask the sales person. If

youn can't get an answer,l note the particular product and look it

up online.
