Hi Debbie and ,

The forms that you are discussing were developed as tools to give

physicians a way to remind them to examine and record the severity

of: 1) Occipital flattening, 2) Ear Alignment, 3) Forehead Asymmetry,

4) Facial Asymmetry, and 5) Torticollis.

We were originally not going to release these forms until our study

was done, but the pediatricians who saw preliminary copies were so

impressed they wanted them right away and started making photo copies.

The tools are already proving useful, as some doctors are using this

to 'rate' a child's severity prior to advising them on repositioning

and conservative intervention. Then, when they return in six weeks

if repositioning has not been successful they have a record to submit

to the insurance company that documents this.

The study we are currently working on is being done in Phoenix,

Dallas, and San Diego. We are having groups of Craniofacial

Surgeons, Pediatric Neurosurgeons, Pediatricians, and the lay public

evaluating pictures based on these forms. The end goal is to try to

determine whether a more formal definition of " mild " " moderate "

and " severe " can be established using these tools.

Hope that answers your questions. Please feel free to contact me at

Sincerely,

Tim Littlefield
