Guest guest
Hello: I'm glad you found us. I would give you the same advice I gave to another new member a few minutes ago. Read as much as you can about MS and the symptoms. There are other members of this group who have mental or psychiatric conditions who do have an MS diagnosis. One doesn't cancel out the other! Have you looked at the National MS Society website? There is a lot of good, solid information there. Also our own files section is full of great information. You can find it through the group page or just go to http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/MSersLife/files/ All of your symptoms sound consistent with MS. Have you had any testing done yet? It's common to have blood work to rule out other diseases. What about MRIs? You said you aren't a native. Do you mind me asking where you are from? I wasn't able towalk properly, I had pain also while resting.Last summer, my right facial nerve became numb - it's difficult todescribe it, it was neither tingling nor pain, I was only aware offeeling that part of my body in a different way than usually.Few months afterwards, I started feeling out of ballance. In two days,I developed true vertigo - the whole world was spinning, my eyes werejerking, I was not even able to stand, tend to fall immediately. Iended up crawling on the floor, vomiting repeatedly. In the hospital Iwas told my inner ear was to blame, but MS has been considered to be apossible cause as well, which I was told by a neurologist after I hadleft the hospital. 2 months ago I got one more brief episode of vertigo. Then my facebecame numb again, and I also lost part of my dexterity on the rightside of my body. Nowadays, my fingers and toes on my right side areburning, though they are very cold, and i partially lost sensation inone ofthe toes, I also have some muscle twitching in my left leg.The problem is, that ppl around me (family, friends, even doctors)think it all in my head, because of the fact, that I'm on Zoloft fordepressions and crying spells without apparent reason. Every doctorwho sees my record automatically thinks that my psychiatric conditionis to blame. Guest guest
Hello, thank you for your reply. I'm Czech, residing in Sweden but atm in the Czech republic, moving to Finland in a year or so I have managed to persuade a colleague of my father, who is a doctor, to write a recommendation for MRI, so in a few weeks I'm going to have the test done. I wonder if my depression and/or crying spells might have been the first symptom of MS, and I would like to know, if any of you ever suggered form a true vertigo (with vomiting, world spinning etc.). Guest guest
Welcome aboard. I'm sorry your concerns are being dismiss as being "all in your head". Sadly, this isn't uncommon. Many of us seeking help are told it's in our heads, it's depression or anxiety, and so on. Has any doctor considered ordering blood work, doing MRIs, or any of the other testing? Several things you describe sound familiar to me, and all of them I've read about here on this list from tohers. About seven years ago, the left of my face started acting funny. A strange numbing, which came in the heat and then would ease off after a while. Eventually, it never went away. At times there is an odd crawling or tingling sensation on that side. I also get an itch that is unscratchable. I've felt the hot/cold sensations, as well. For me it's similar to the feeling of applying Sombra or BenGay or IceyHot, etc. BTW, your English looks great to me! Where are you from orignially? Guest guest
I had such a vertigo attack 30 years prior to my MS diagnosis. At the time I called it 'carsickness', for lack of a better term. I suffered the spinning, vomiting and couldn't stand up. I crawled to the bathroom for three full days until it eased off. Guest guest
Hi , It's hard for me to say how long those sensations last. When they first began, it could be hours or maybe a day or two. I can't remember for sure now. For the numbing on that side of my face, it's been there for years now. Other sensations might last minutes, hours, days or weeks. I know the feeling of pressure, or of a finger poking you. It feels as if you look in the mirror that part of your skin will be pressed in. But it isn't, it just "feels" that way. There are times it feels that my skin is being pulled out, rather than pushed in, as well. I've also had tugs which remind me of that feeling. My upper lip has tugged up, in a muscle twitch of sorts. It stays for a few minutes. My eyelids at times feel as if they're being pressed on or touched by a finger. This comes with a more intense numbing feeling. Recently, very recently, it's felt like my eyelids or eyebrows were raising. I don't know if they really are. When I feel the cold or burning sensations, I'd say they don't last but minutes. Though it happens repeatedly over a week or more, when at it's most persistent. There are times I feel it, it lasts for a few minutes, goes away and returns a few minutes later. "Few minutes" could be ten or could be thirty. Guest guest
You certainly can't rule out MS. You might want to ask your doctor for a referral to a Neurologist so you can have further testing done such as MRI's. There are several people here who suffer from psychological problems along with their MS. Don't let doctors deter you from finding out what is causing your symptoms.
