I see a Pain Dr, who I absolutely love at the University of Colorado off of

Colfax (Anschutz Pavilion). I have come to learn that my insurance (Tricare)

has to authorize everything as well.

When the Pain Dr decided to do the sympathetic blocks, I argued with the

receptionist because the Pain Dr said we needed treat my RSD quickly and

agressively so he wanted me to get my first sympathetic block a week after

seeing him for that first time but the receptionist kept telling me that the

insurance company would not allow her to schedule it any earlier than 10 days

from that appt. I was so mad at her for trumping what the Dr said. I felt like

she could have gotten the block approved in less than a week if she was

motivated. It was the holiday season and nobody seemed to motivated to do

anything except for me.

I am scheduled to get the SCS implant on 18 Apr, so that should be enough time

for the Insurance to approve it and the schedulers to get it orchestrated.

I have only lived in Colorado for 1.5 years and never heard of Kiowa, I thought

that was in Hawaii...just kidding. I bet it is nice country?

Too funny that we live so close to each other, we should meet for lunch someday

after you get settled in. Are you familiar with were the Southlands Mall is?

It is huge and has tons of outdoor shops and restaraunts (sp). I work out a

Buckley Mon - Frid so let me know if you want to get together some time and we

can exchange #s on our regular email.

cheers

Lynn

Hi Lynn,

I am curious, what flavor of Tricare do you have? We have Tricare Standard and

don't have the thing about having to have visits or treatments 10 days apart.

I hope to be moving to the Denver area because I have small grandchildren there.

So, I am glad ot hear that there is a good place for pain management. Where I

live, those options are limited and the docs not so hot.

I hope things go better soon!

Hi Lois,

I am Active Duty Military so I have Tricare Prime which pays 100%.

From what I have learned, request for procedures or consults are

prioritized by which block the doctor checks like, routine 10-14 days,

urgent 5-10 days and something like immediate. So the doctors checks

one of those and then I receive a letter in the mail telling me who or

what has been approved.

I can go to Triwest.com to check the status of the request or check

claims. Tricare has changed a tremendous amount over the years and

continues to change so much that I can't keep up with it. There is a

lot to Tricare that I am learning as I go thru this mess that I would

have never known.

Let me know if you move to Denver, that would be great if you can be

close to your grandbabies.

Cheers

Lynn

Now I understand the difference. Tricare Prime operates like a PPO or HMO. The

problems you mention is one of the reasons we stuck with Tricare Standard. We

pay more for co-pays but we pick our own docs and have less hassle with

approvals.

As you say, that can change. Congress can't seem to wait to find new ways to

decrease benefits.
