Guest guest
Oh my. I remember your experience, but don't know I'd heard of your son's. That's a rude comment no matter what is happening. Good responses, both times. My Sis-in-law had a cashier respond to my crying baby niece with something like "somebody needs a spanking". Lovely. My sons and I were once shopping with my Mom. Mom was just in front of me, checking out, with my oldest next to her. He was between 8 and 9, I believe. Cashier was a moron and niether my Mother nor my son were impressed with her "antics". After paying, Mom and headed out to the car. The cashier turned to the rest of us in line and began criticising Mom and . That went over well. I asked the checker to put something in my cart (which was right aside her register and easier for her to access then me) She said "Sure, it's only MY BACK" I looked at her and quietly said "I have MS, so if that is your only problem consider yourself blessed" I might add that I am 51 and she was about 22-25 and a big, hefty, strong young woman. She put the things in my cart, and I've not seen her again. I do still shop there, though I had another similar thing happen. My son did something that set off the self-checkout register. I asked him to stop, but the bagger that was near him asked "What is your problem?" I, again quietly, said "He is autistic, what is yours?" Never saw him again, either. Guest guest
Challis, I once had an ignorant man comment on Baylee (3 yrs at the time and Autistic) in the pediatricians waiting room. He said he needed a good "a$$ whoopin" . Baylee was overstimulated and having a meltdown. Such ignorance. Sigh. Trista (unknown) They just opened a Dollar Tree down at the end of the block. Guest guest
Trista, That is just aweful and rude. Some people just don't understand these days. I have worked with autistic kids, twins in fact, and when they get overstimulated watch out. :-) That is why they are our very special kids. My nephew, Tyler has Trisomy 8 and autism, when he was little and we had family gatherings he would rock in his rocker to beat the band. But that was his "safe" place and he knew he could go to it. For that reason his parents don't take him, often, to crowded places. I'm sorry that you had that experience. ~hugs~ Dawn~Sometimes God brings things to you because you have the strength thru him to deal with it. ~ ~All Animals are God's angels, they give to us their unconditional love~.~A dog has one aim in life...to bestow his heart. Guest guest
Dawn, Needless to say I have changed A LOT since then. I used to be meek and mild, but not anymore. It's funny how I turned into a mama bear, having to be my children's only advocate. LOL. No one dare say something like that today, or they'll get an ear full. lol. take care, Trista Re: Shopping experiences (was: (unknown)) Trista, That is just aweful and rude.
