I have been on celebrex and vioxx and personally vioxx worked better for me,

they are anti-inflammatorys, and they are probably better on your stomach for

long term use - but someone else may have a different opinion!

Medication Help for a Friend

Hi All,

Figured I'd tap into our vast knowledge pool for help on this one.

I have a friend who is not online who is dx'd with hypermobile type

EDS. She's been trying to find medication to help her for years. She just

started going to my pain management doc but she's already hitting some

dilemas that I don't know too much about and thought you could help with.

It seems she may be opiate intolerant. The doc tried her on the patch

but she had a bad stomach reaction as well as decreased breathing and to top

it off she was allergic to the adhesive. (Personally I think he started her

on too high a dose, the 50's. But she says she's a VERY large woman and she

thinks he did that due to her size. But it really doesn't make much

difference since she's allergic to the adhesive.) Is there any other class

of pain medication besides opiates? As with all other docs we need to help

them help us and I'd like to arm her with some information.

Are the drugs morphine and methadone opiates? What exactly is Vioxx -

an anti-inflammatory?

I read an article posted recently that mentioned an injectible

non-narcotic called Parecoxib as working well for post surgery pain but it

didn't state what it was or how it worked. Does anyone know?

Any help you all can provide will be appreciated :-)

Hugs,

Yes, it is an anti-inflamatory.

I take Ultram for pain, and it helps me a lot. However, it is a

non-narcotic, and my symptoms seem a lot milder than a lot I've read about

here. I also take Voltaren, which is an anti-inflamatory.

It would be best for her if she can put off the really strong meds as long as

she can, but one needs to be able to live and enjoy life also.

Hopefully others will have some advice also.

Love Lana
