Guest guest
I agree with you about the difficulty of drawing conclusions that things are IgAN-related. I don't bruise easily either. I think that for those who do, if it is truly related to the IgAN, it may be because their IgAN has more elements of HSP involved. Bruising is more of an HSP symptom (easy breakage or leaking of tiny blood vessels near the skin). As we know, IgAN and HSP seem to be different manifestations of the same disease. Probably, nobody is 100% IgAN or 100% HSP. We all exist on a continuum between to two, with some of us leaning more towards one than the other. Could be the reason for the fatigue factor in mild IgAN as well. IgAN describes the specific disease process in the kidneys, but HSP is a systemic disease which affects the whole body. Interestingly, the more I think about it, the more I remember being about 8 or 9 years old, and my legs being literally covered with bruises. This was way beyond anything I ever saw on any of my friends. Late 50's, early 1960's - nobody would have thought anything of it. Plus, few people had health insurance in those days, and there was no medicare system yet. So, who knows? I do remember having some pretty wicked episodes of what were thought to be flus at the time. I wonder how many of us who developed IgAN in early adulthood actually may have had some degree of undiagnosed HSP long before actual kidney symptoms became noticeable. Like I said, who would have thought of HSP in the 1950's and 60's, unless it was very obvious. Pierre bruising > > > > Hi , > > > > Sorry about your diagnosis. Guest guest
I second these comments. I also often need antibiotics due to the reaction I have to insect bites. I have bruised easily all my life. My five year old daughter was recently tested for leukaemia due to the severe bruising on her legs - thank god she tested o.k. Perhaps it is therefore hereditary, I don't know. Guest guest
Hi Pierre, Hope you are feeling better. I agree with your musings I've often wondered if this problem was around when I was younger. My mother complained to my GP when I was a baby that I had dark and strong urine, I have always felt pain/bruised more easily than others I know and had bouts of puffiness in my face all through my life. I've also reacted really badly to insect bites and thought it normal until people reacted in shock when they saw the size of the swellings and blisters. Sally. Guest guest
By the way, I don't think I mentioned before (maybe someone else already mentioned it, don't know), but easy bruising can be a side effect of prednisone. So, if you're on prednisone and have a lot of bruising, that could be it. Pierre
Guest guest
In the late 60's I had HSP at the age of 4. I had the bruising on the lower half of my body. The burising is really (at least in my case) hemmoraging under the skin.(purpura)In fact I was hemmoraging inside as well.
