I too have had excellent results with Gabatril - it's about the only thing that takes the edge off my excruciating neuropathic pain in my feet. (Note it will NOT work for other kinds of pain!) I found no relief and terrible side effects from Neurontin and Lyrica, and Topamax did little for me, but the Gabatril works like the dickens with no side effects at all for me. However, it can make you sleepy, so you should always take it at bedtime (it's a once-a- day medication). The risk with Gabatril and seizures happens if you go up or down on your dosage too quickly. As long as you titrate very slowly, you shouldn't have a problem. Also note that EVERY anti-seizure med has this risk, not just Gabatril. Neurontin, Lyrica, Topamax - they can all cause seizures if you change dose too quickly. My pharmacist also told me that you would see early minor neurological side effects before having a full-blown seizure and therefore could titrate back down again if you were going to have a reaction - things like obsessive/compulsive movements of the mouth/tongue, twitching fingers, etc. Knowing I would get warning signs first if a problem was going to happen so that I could avoid it made me feel much safer when I first started taking it. If you are starting it, talk to your pharmacist or doctor to find out what to look for as early signs of problems. And make sure to take tiny tiny doses to start. (My total effective daily dose is only 12 mg, so you already take it at much smaller doses than any of the other meds in this category.)
