Guest guest
Caitlin: Hon do not apologize for a long post. you vent all you want that is what we are all here for.. Do not ever feel guilty for talking to us.. or telling us what's going on with you.. We all understand what you are going through and what you are facing.. and being so young and not really having anyone that you can talk to about the fibro.. You made the right decision to come to this group...We will all do our very best to help you all we can. Stress. is a BIG Trigger on Fibro.. it can really throw you into a bad flare.. so can feeling guilty all the time.. Sound's like you are not getting the support you need from your parent's.. and also sounds like you could use a mother figure or at least a Female Adult that you can talk to and relate to there is a lot of woman here that will be glad to listen to you any time.. You may want to cut back on your schedule a little bit. But only if it's going to help your stress level.. I am on amitriptyline also called Elivil.. It does not work for me.. But just because it doesn't work for one doesn't mean it wont work for someone else. I am not on any Pain med's for Fibro.. I take Genasec it's an over the counter med.. for the pain.. You may want to consider going to a counsler or Phycologist... As Depression of having Fibro can cause pain and fatigue.. and having a Chronic Illness such as FIbro would cause anyone to become depressed.. and they could give you an anti-depressant to help you.. Please feel free to vent all you want it sounds like you could use to really let go.. Scream shout, what ever it take's we are here to help you.. (((((Caitlin)))) Gentle Caring Hug's Marie Marie A. Guest guest
Elavil IS an antidepressant which also causes drowsiness... which is why they like to prescribe it for night time use. After all the research I have done on Fibro I have found out that the pain messages our brains receive from Fibro is not accurate. Fibro makes these pain messages stronger than they really are. So when they say " it's all in your head " ... that statement is partially true. It's not that it's imaginary... it's very real... what we feel is very very real... but it's not accurate... Fibro translates the pain message to the brain and basically tells our brains that the pain is much much worse than it really is. Our brain... wonderful computer that it is... doesn't question the message or the source... but takes the input at face value and as absolute fact. Now if only we could convince our brains to not listen to the Fibro messages... Oh if only :-( This is the main reason why antidepressants are prescribed for Fibro pain. They're hoping that the antidepressant can fix the scrambled pain message to the brain and in turn lessen our pain from Fibro. It's not the standard pain killer, but works on the root cause instead of numbing the body the way standard pain killers (opiates) do. The other reason for prescribing antidepressants is because of the actual depression usually associated with Fibromyalgia. With lowered levels of serotonin in the brain, depression will come from this. You don't have to have Fibro to have lowered levels of serotonin and you don't necessarily have to have lowered levels of serotonin if you have Fibro. Now that sentence sent my poor brain for a roller coaster ride.... Let me see if I can explain it better so that I can understand it too. People that suffer from depression don't all have Fibro, but they do have a lowered level of serotonin in the brain. People with Fibro don't all have lowered serotonin, which means they also don't suffer with depression. So there is no direct link between Depression and Fibro... but for the majority... it does seem to accompany Fibro. Being depressed and the actual illness, Depression are not the same thing. If I'm unhappy about a loss in my life, such as job, house, partner... I will be depressed and sad... but I am not suffering from Depression. Many make this mistake and it drives me crazy. When I was in severe depression and diagnosed by a psychiatrist... my mom told me to think happy thoughts... and it will go away... HELLO???? They really should change the name of the illness to something other than Depression. Maybe serotonosis or something... Not everyone that is depressed has Depression. Whew... I think that made sense... I hope this helps in some way to understand it better. confused hugs, Norah -- Norah Bleazard - Burlington, Ontario Canada www.bleazard.net ~ www.janorlites.com E-MAIL= norah.fibroyahoo@...
