Congratulations Pierre,

Perhaps you will even make it into the News of the World one day (that's one

of the UK's very tacky Sunday Paper's - full of sex stories and little news).

Are you giving autographs? Now we have a comedian and a celebrity among

us...

Maybe from reading the article someone like me will find this site and feel

the same kind of kinship that I felt the moment I read the first e-mail.

Because many of you have been there...and done that...and for the first time

in many years I didn't feel alone and really that makes me less afraid about

my future.

By the way, I have learned more about IgAN since I've been a member of this

site than I learned over the last 20 years from the medical library and my

Neph. Thanks to this group :) Connie

igan.ca in the news

Just thought I would let the group know that the IgA Nephropathy Support

Group and the www.igan.ca website made the local newspaper today (which is

the major daily in the National Capital - a pretty major newspaper in

Canada).

I was interviewed a couple of weeks ago by a reporter in connection with

an

article on highspeed Internet use, and the reporter worked in the fact

that

I have Berger's Disease and that I run the website and support group.

There's a big photo of me in front of my computer, with the website on the

screen.

Once I get permission, I'll either put the article up on the website, or

reprint the text in a message on the group. To be honest, I didn't even

think she would mention the disease at all, since that wasn't the main

purpose of the article.

Perhaps as topical calendars are all the rage we could get one called

" catheter boys and girls " ?

:)

LOL. I've had better pictures on my driver's licence! Hardly a celebrity,

but, it's nice to get the website known locally. Out of the 400 or so

members we have in the group, I don't think there's anyone else from my

region, let alone my city.

good : )

Wow! I know media hero!

PS. If it raises general awareness of our condition, that's a good thing.

Well , so far, I've only gotten a single email out of it, so, probably

not that much recognition locally : )

But, as I said, my disease and the support group were only mentioned

incidentally, as it wasn't the reason for the article. For whatever reason,

the reporter called it Berger's Disease, instead of IgA nephropathy. I guess

it sounded more like a real disease that way.

You can read the article (without the picture though, but probably just as

well) on the newspaper's website. I've put a link to it on the news page of

www.igan.ca. It's the first item at the top (so far today). Note that the

French accented î in my name seems to have been a problem for the online

version, although it did appear correctly in the actual newspaper.
