Guest guest
Hi Val,…..I have my days when I have problems with cognitive stuff too, and it does seem like you are losing your mind. Sometimes I have what I call my dyslexic typing moments. No matter how many times I have typed a word, it might come out backwards. I always use my spell checker! It used to really worry me, but now I just kind of accept that that is the way it is sometimes. One of the things I started doing was to “exercise” my brain. I actually think it has helped. I have a series of games that I play each day, from cards, to words, numbers, memory and puzzles. I have several software games that keep me active in my mind, and I do think it has helped. I can gage my cognitive abilities by playing them, and know what kind of a day it will be. The one that stretches my thinking the most is the memory game. It’s a simple childrens game, and it has different levels. I play on the easiest and work up. I don’t play until I get frustrated. That to me would be counter productive. Maybe something like this will help you too? Cognitive problems are just another bothersome symptom of MS, and with a little planning can improve. Adapting to our difficulties is a process, and with time and experience you will find an acceptable level of function that you can live with. I know its not a funny thing, but if you can find some humor in it, it will ease the worry, and give you lots of stories to tell, “remember the time?” Hugs, Jackie J From: MSersLife [mailto:MSersLife ] On Behalf Of Valene Sent: Wednesday, April 19, 2006 7:00 AM To: MSersLife Subject: Something's wrong... Guest guest
Hi Val, I've done the exact same thing. You are not Going crazy. I misspell the simplest words and I just can't spell right. I have had stuff left in the microwave until hubby comes home and discovers it. I just put down a to do list for things I really have to do, then I am going to check them off as I get them done. Will give me a sense of accomplishment. I've used timers before for a reminder, whether it was for checking the laundry or whatever, the oven ringer would go off and BiNGO......I remembered what I was doing before I forgot and went on a different project!!!! Guest guest
Dawn, I know exactly what you are saying. I used to take care of the checkbook. My fiance and I share an acct. After my two episodes of losing a couple hundred dollars, I finally gave in and let him take over. It wouldn't have been so bad, but he really doesn't get the whole MS thing, and got really mad at me. Yes, I did my fair share of crying also. But the good thing is, now when we have no money, he can no longer blame it on me. And when he causes us to go overdrawn, it's my turn to get upset. He has no excuse...other than the fact that he has no idea what he's doing. But, I'm not one to say, "I told you so." Although, I'd like to. Guest guest
Jackie, Today day seems to be an especially difficult day with the cognitive thing. For the life of me, I can't remember how to spell perscription. (sp). Oh brother. I can't even tell if I'm spelling it wrong! I know I must be because my spell check is saying so. I do play a lot of word type games with a friend of mine here on the web. We play word racer and literati ( a scrabble game). I also do crossword puzzles. But now, I can see why I'm not finishing many. Tee hee. It's funny that you mention dyslexic moments...It took me a half hour to type this email...I'm constantly having to read and reread and fix the mistakes I have made. If I didn't proofread, would have definatly (sp) looked like a first grader typed it. Thank you so much for your support and advise....God bless you! -- Something's wrong... I am so upset! I am actually getting some good laugh therapy with everyone cuz I've done the same things. The sticky notes...yep.....then I would forget where I put the freaken sticky note. My hubby got me a spiral notebook...well same thing..couldn't find where it was and a lot of the times it could be right in front of me and I don't see it!!!!! I'll have to ask my hubby, actually I'm gonna give him a call to ask him what I said that we laughed forever on....just a sec..... Ok here it is, I was trying to remember a certain phrase and I mix it up with my own ms lingo....oh my gosh, my hubby said I have so many he isn't sure which one. LOL Oh, I did just do this the other day, since my sensation if off I had NO IDEA. My hubby says "honey what do you have hanging on your robe?" Guest guest
Darlene, Halarious!(sp...again) I have found that it does no good to write things down in note books. I forget to look in them anyway. Sticky notes work pretty good, as long as I put them where I know I'll be apt to see them. You know, like on the computer!! Otherwise,I'll forget unless I happen to be in that particular area. I'm so glad to know that this is not just me. Not that I wish it on anyone else, heaven forbid. What is really embarrassing is to find that you've walked out of the house with two different shoes. I've done that so many times, I now leave my shoes at the door. I just slip them on before leaving. Blessings... PS. One of my twins middle name is Darlene. I've always thought that was a pretty name. -- Something's wrong... I am so upset! But, tonight is shot night again.... I guess tomorrow will have to be left in God's hands. Usually, the day after I take my shot is when I experience the most problems. Guest guest
Hi Val,……glad the headache is better. I don’t think the symptoms after your shot is psychological, because others here have mentioned similar reactions. Wow a cop eh? Maybe you could approach the MS subject from a work related perspective? Like what would he do if he encountered someone who had MS? Would he be able to help them if they needed it? or something to that effect. My hubby has lived with my MS for most of our married life, and he only knows what I’ve told him. He believes what I say, but sometimes I think he thinks I am making more of my symptoms, and use them to get out of going places. YEAH RIGHT!!! As if??? Geeeeeeeessssssshhhhhhhhh!! Now that he is sick I think he’s beginning to understand a little better.
