Guest guest
I recently read two books I wanted to share. One is If You Had Controlling Parents by Dan Neuharth, Ph.D. It's about more than just BPD, but it is a very easy, down to earth read and offers practical strategies. The web site is http://controllingparents.com. The other book is more of a psychology book and is more academic. It's called Leaving Home: The Art Of Separating From Your Difficult Family by P. Celani. 2 case studies reminded me so much of my brother who still lives with nada and fada that I went online, bought it, and sent it to him. Even though it's aimed at those who are enmeshed in their family life and I have escaped, I still found some great info about transference, splitting, and the differences between the wounded self and the hopeful self. Almost every page clicked with me and I could see why I've reacted in certain ways (e.g., unhealthy drive to succeed and control, as well as severe fear of authority). It's helped me put some of my past in perspective and gain a balance in how I feel and react. I don't know whether it's the books I've been reading lately or my therapy, or a combination, but I feel that I've finally got a grasp on this, can put the past behind me, and can move forward calmly and proudly. I wish the same for my fellow KOs.
