Addicted Aunt... Again & Again...

Morning/Afternon All -

I hope this Sunday finds you all well. You are all in my thoughts and prayers...

I write today to hopefully find some direction for my Aunt, who recently had to move in with me, and is SEVERELY addicted to the following meds:

MS Contin (Morphine I believe), Demerol, Methadone, Norco, Oxycodeine - well, just about everything in the Schedule II & III family.. She has had to move in with me as no one else will take her as it is 'my turn' this time around and now I get to put up with all this behaviour that has me literally scared out of my mind.

THis is not a new thing with my Aunt. SHe's been like this for over 15 years now and does nothing - and I mean nothing - but live to obtain pills and take pills. There are NEVER any conversations about 'How is your day", e.g., without a drug coming up or how bad I hurt, I can't get a hold of Dr. #22, etc. etc. The woman has been admitted into treatment programs over 30 times, the most recent at the beginning of this month. When she got out, the contingency to stay with me was that she goes to her PRIMARY DOCTOR and her PAIN MGMT DR ONLY!!! Well, come to find out, accourding to the RX bottles, there's about 9 different Dr's within the last 2 weeks that have prescribed the aforementioned drugs. She has taken my car in the middle of the night (will get more on this in a minute) to go to Urgent care and/or ER's to get more. My credit cards (just two since I foudn out) have $1200 racked up on them for the visits as well as some charges at pharmacies for the meds. I have had to install a lock on just about everything so she does not steal it and go to the streets like she did last night, to no avail. I go to work and get calls from my neighbours (they know all about her too - especially when she was arrested 3 times at my house in the last 6 months - anything from posession to distributing to buying) stating there are about 10 people/several cars at my house and they are people they've never seen before.

Come to find out, she's been dealing out of my house. WHether it be selling or buying, it is being done in MY HOUSE!!! Now, the only legitimate ailment she had was shingles - well, I should say this is the most 'recent' ailment that she has. She uses this, as well as the flare-ups on her body, as an excuse to be on these medications. I'm no doctor, but there is no way that soemone needs ALL these drugs at one time. Especially when 120 Morphine tablets are gone in 3 days - that's the honest truth and this holds true with just about all of them. I know these were filled Friday AM, she hasn't been out of the house since I have been home ALL weekend including Friday (that is how I know she couldn't have sold them - also forgot to tell u that I changed my alarm code so if she were to leave, she'd set it off), I have been badgered since 3:00AM for pills. Either to give her some of my pain medication or to take her in - both of which I refused to do on the grounds that I just KNOWINGLY spent $380 for an Urgent Care visit and $140 for the Morphine - all on the pretense that she was HONESTLY in pain due to a flare-up...

So I asked her where they were flaring up, and now they're 'supposedly' flaring up in her groin, behind, and areas that aren't easily 'seen' so to speak. The story on Friday was they were on her feet, Saturday they were never on her feet (I was told I must have misunderstood yet again), and basically the story constantly changes. It is now about 6AM, she's vomiting all over the place, screaming and hollaring like a banchee, but refuses to go to the local ER and wants to go about an hour away to that ER. I know why - bcuz she just got the Morphine on Friday from the Urgernt Care that works out of the Local ER and she knows they won't give her anything since she sure as hell shouldn't be out in 3 days!!

Nevertheless, I cannot bear to see these behaviours nor can I stand to be afraid to be in my own home with Lord knows who coming in and out of it. This is why no one ever wants to take her in, no one ever wants to deal with her by taking her to doctors, etc., and no one wants to put up with her period... Quite frankly, neither do I, however I again am doing whatever I possibly can to ensure she at least has a roof over her head and food on the table. What more can I possibly do? Is it even an option to try and get her 'forced' into rehab? All I know is that my personal belongings are slowly disappearing, all these people are doing dealings in my home, and now she's so out of control that I am also afraid she will come after me...

Here I sit, a hostage in my own home, while she's on the rampage in the rest of the house. If calling the authorities in would be my best option today, I am prepared to do such if I cannot get a hospital to hold her.
