Donna,

Were you diagnosed with the eye duct problem by your regular doctor or optomitrist?

I see the doctor tomorrow is why I'm asking.

Norma, as I understand it, you do produce tears but not the right kind. Even though I don't have Sjogrens, I had to have punctal plugs put in mytear ducts to keep the "good" tears in to lubricate my eyes. Also, it could be due to allergies. Donna NColorado

Norma,

While a regular MD can prescribe drops for dry eyes they will not

have everything they need to test you to see if you need the plugs...

and if you don't need the plugs they can cause more problems.

Depending on where you live you may have to see an ophthalmologist,

not an optomotrist, about he plugs because in some area ODs can not

insert punctal plugs because they are considered permanent.

I was diagnosed by my ophthalmologist. I had Lasic surgery in 2001. My

already dry eye problems got even worse after that, and he suggested the

punctal plugs. I'm so glad I had them put in. I believe my insurance paid

for most of the cost since it was a medical procedure and medical

diagnosis.
