Dear Loretta,

As health care advocates, it’s both infuriating and painful for all of us to see how implementation of the Medicare Modernization Act of 2003 (MMA) has unfolded as an unmitigated disaster. This disastrous law, however, does contain a potentially useful provision: the creation of the Citizens’ Health Care Working Group (CHCWG).

This entity, established by Congress as part of the MMA, is tasked with conducting “a nationwide public debate about improving the health care system to provide every American with the ability to obtain quality, affordable health care coverage” via public hearings and community meetings. This Working Group will then issue a report to Congress and the President with recommendations for improving our health care system.

We believe it’s important that the Working Group hear from health care advocates like you. If you live in a state where the Working Group has scheduled a meeting, we strongly urge you to attend and make your voice heard. The more they hear from you, the more likely it is that their final report will present an accurate view of the health care crisis in America and what needs to be done about it.

Participating is simple: Just follow the link below to register for a Working Group meeting near you, and then let us know which meeting you plan to attend. After the meeting, we may contact you to ask about what transpired in the meeting and your impressions of it. If you cannot attend a meeting or there isn't one scheduled near you, please forward this email to anyone you think could attend.
