Hi Angie It would be a very good idea, not to share your health, and medication information with so many people. People are full of horror stories, and other types of disinformation. Which sources did your sister read? Not everything is remotely true on line. There are many sites with nothing but scare tactics, due to the " war on drugs. " Anytime a person needs to quit taking a narcotic that they have been taking routinely, it must be done very, very slowly. If, and when the time comes your physician will help you along. Narcotics, are not the only medications that need a person needs to be weaned from, if it is necessary to stop taking them. This is true, of almost all the psych medications, and antiseizure medications, and even cardiac medications. One of best questions to ask yourself right now, is the Methadone helping your pain? If so, is it improving your quality of life? Once again, I cannot stress how important it is not to tell multiple what medications you are taking. It doesn't just have to be narcotics either. Keep your medical problems, medications, and other information between only a very trusted friend, and/or a family member, and your physician(s). This does not include the very special times when you are educating someone about your illness. This does not include people who are simply nosy. I put myself through so much mental anguish by surfing the web for medical info. Best bet is to ask others with personal, successful EXPERIENCE on th subject (like right here. Anymore For a multitude of resons I'm beter off if I don't tell anyone what and how uch I take. My care provides are the only one's ned toknow. I was afraid and embarrassed to take oxycontin and then methadone, and sometimes the sice effects or accidental withdrawal were pretty rough. but overall they realy, really improved the quality of my life. I didn't even realize it at the time but I had been near suicidal with the pain. when I went to bed at night I'd say " God if I'm lucky enough to fall asleep, I wouldn't mind if I don't wake up. " And many times the only reason I changed from that line of thinking was the next thought " But who will feed my Huskies? they'll wind up split apart and in shelters. " Bles my puppies, they mgith eat furniture and shoes, but they were often they were the only reason to get out of bed (because they were ripping the sheets)
