Guest guest
Hi Sharon, If your daughter in law has bronchiolitis, the inflammation wouldn't necessarily show up on a chest xray. The best test would be a CT scan. I have chronic cough that has lasted for 4 years. At first I thought it was whooping cough because I had the 'whoop' sound in my cough. My doctor prescribed an inhaler, and 3 different antibiotics over the course of a year. After a year of not being able to get it resolved, I was referred to a pulmonologist. I've had a couple of CT scans, pulmonary function tests, xrays galore. I've been on long acting and short acting inhalers. Either the side effects were too much for me to deal with or I did not get relief. The pulmonologist continues to see me every 4 to 6 months just to monitor the progression. I hope your daughter-in-law gets well soon. Donna in WA It does not require many words to speak the truth. --Chief ph __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Well You certainly sound perky and chipper! And busy!!! It is good that you can do all that, just reading it almost made me tired I've been blogging, if you want a chuckle read the last couple of entries... The weather here is So much cooler then there! I don't know if I could do it, no wonder you want to go back to Alaska!! But I hear the desert in Bloom is a totally awesome sight!!! Do you have white sage around there? I want to get some for smudging. Sorry you've got so many sikkies to deal with, that in itself can really take work...I hope they all (and your cold, too) get better soon with NO major complications. I'm going to have a bust medical month, have an Ortho appt on the 13th, a GP on the 19th and the sleep study on the 27th. Hugs to all y'all and Challis! Peace and Blessings ~*~ Akiba ~*~ Pragmatic Visionary http://yodamamma.blogspot.com/ -- Good Morning! Checking in.... Good Morning everyone I hope you are all feeling perky and chipper? I just wanted to check in and see how everyone is feeling. What are you doing? How's life? I'm actually feeling pretty good even though I was awake at 3:30 a.m. for over an hour. I got up then and took two hydrocodone for my shoulder/neck pain and was able to go back to sleep, waking up at nearly 6 a.m. My legs hurt last night but not as bad as they have other nights. As Martha would say "It's a good thing". I had a big leg spasm in my inner thigh when I got out of bed but I've had worse. I have a mild cold. Everyone in my house has been sick for a month with colds, then the 10 day influenza and now colds again. I have stayed well through all of it but it's finally caught up with me. My DIL has had a terrible cough and finally went to her doctor yesterday. It's alarming news. Her doctor thinks she has Whooping Cough. They sent her for some blood tests and a chest x-ray. The blood test will tell if it is Whooping Cough (pertussis) but will take 5 days. In the meantime she is being treated with pertussis-specific antibiotics. The chest x-ray was all clear (as it would be with pertussis, from what I understand). I'm going to call my neurologist today to see what their recommendation is for me as far as preventative treatment. DIL is home from work until she is all clear. She's the surgery scheduler for a high profile cardiologist's office here in Arizona. I'm taking care of her and the 4 kids. Spring has definitely sprung here in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona. It's springing rapidly toward summer in fact. The day time temps are mid 80's. by the end of April it is often 100 degrees. I'm certainly dreading summer. Before long it will be above 105, then 110 for days/weeks on end. When the heat hits I only go out before 9 a.m. or after it gets dark in the evening. I enjoy feeding the wild birds and love to watch the doves, wrens, sparrows, robins, crows and assorted 'tweety birds'. Those birds go through so much wild bird seed and lots of dried bread. We used to see a lot of quail here in the desert but it's so built up now. The quail don't come where there are so many buildings... there's no open desert any longer where I am. Sad. There used to be many farmers fields and citrus groves near here-- now all gone. Instead there are condos and high priced homes as far as the eye can see. Progress, eh? Anyone remember the late 60's/early 70's song with the words "they paved paradise and put up a parking lot"? Was that Joni ? ANYWAY... (climbing off my soapbox) I started taking Rx Omega-3 Factors Pharmaceutical Grade fish oil several weeks ago (EPA 400 mg/DHA 200 mg). I'm taking 6 a day now. I can feel a difference. A REAL difference. I'm still in pain but I have more energy and I'm able to work through the pain more. Yesterday I did laundry, cooked a big meal, washed dishes, cleaned my bathroom, walked the yard picking up trash and stayed busy all day. I have seen increasing stamina each day. At the same time I started a good Vitamin E 1000 IU and Vitamin D 1000 IU. I don't know if the change in the way I feel is just from the fish oil or from all three things. No matter what the reason is I do feel better. I want to get some other supplements next payday from IHerb.com Great prices on really good supplements, in my opinion. Now I'm waiting for a report from YOU. Hugs and love to all my fellow shipmates aboard Good Ship MS. Sharon Sharon (MSersLife creator/owner) “One minute it's a giant cabbage and the next, ka-boom! Guest guest
Hi Donna,.......what did they say is causing your cough then? I have a lot of respiratory problems, and am dragging my heels about having it checked out. I was told a few years ago that I had a mycoplasma pneumonia, chronic I guess. It stays in the body and will become active if I get runned down. [walking pnuemonia is the other name for it]I tried an inhaler too, and I can't handle the side effects either. Where are you in WA? I use to live up on Whidbey Island, then I moved down to Vancouver. Now I live in Oregon. Guest guest
Hi n....... I don't get any treatment for the pneumonia unless it flares up. Then a course of antibiotics calms it down. Oh, I didn't know you knew about Whidbey? We lived there from 1976-1991 and were really dumb for ever moving from there. Its the old "you never knew what you had until you lost it" scenario. We thought we were missing out on all the great stuff a big city could offer, and moved back to be closer to family. Disappointing on both accounts. My MS got much worse once we moved too. Guest guest
Hi Sharon, I am doing well in Florida, it'll be 2 years next week. The weather is great from Thanksgiving to mid May. It really gets too hot from mid June to mid October. Still no meds other than LDN, no progression since I started it on 7/08/ 03. Nothing like New England though......at least for me. It just got too expensive to stay there. Really cheap living here in Florida compared to Cape Cod. All is well, good wishes to you. Regards, Tom Good Morning! Checking in.... Guest guest
Hi Sharon we have been wanting to purchase a new Sheltie to replace our Sheltie Riley and when I did search on the net to figure how we can get one at a cheaper rate I ran across PetFinder.com and then several Sheltie Recue services. This is one of them I had to fill out an application for http://www.sheltie-rescue.org/ .. We then had visit from a lady to evaluate if we were deserving to own a Sheltie. To us this is all crazy because we had one for 6 year's and made a great home for us. I told the lady that visited us I also filled out an application through a Resue center in my old home town of Noblesville and she told me that lady is very picky who she sales a dog to and sure enough she emailed us to let me know she had concerns about giving us a dog.She did not care about our back yard. She never paid us a visit so what does she know. My wife told me to email her back and let her know she is nuts. We never had any trouble with our dog Riley. The Lady who visited our home did give us another lady in Cincinnati (http://www.pssr.org/) and that we could probably easliy get a dog from her. I sent her an application also. The woman who visited us is with a Sheltie Recue center but she did not have any dogs at this time. I am not too sure about these rescue centers I told Judy we need to just by a puppy and stop having to prove to people we are good to animals. Guest guest
The lady that came to our home said she would share her info to people with those shelters who want to know us since she visited us that way several won't come out again. She did warn me about the Noblesville lady. I will email her and be nice especially word gets around in that circle. I think she was happy with what she saw at our home. I told her we just want to give a dog a good home. It depends on them how badly they want to help those dogs. Bill Sharon Marsden wrote: That's just nuts. Some people are so full of themselves! Guest guest
Bill, sorry to butt in. It is crazy isn't it? You'd think they would make it easier for the animals to be taken, so people wouldn't turn to breeders and buy dogs instead. It strikes me funny that you have to be deemed fit to adopt a dog, but not to have and raise our human children! LOL. It's really nuts. Hope you find the right pet for your family. Guest guest
I have had similar strange things happen with rescue people. A few years back I got an Akita. Nice dog but if you've ever had one, they are not an easy dog to own. Shogun would get off the chain no matter what (he had one of those "sun" chains that goes up and down the yard, not like he was chained to a tree) and terrorize the neighborhood. He would jump on my son every time he saw him (I was not strong enough to stop him they are Very strong dogs) and as a result every time Robbin even Saw the dog he'd cry. And other things, it was just time to find the dog a new home, as a responsible owner and as a responsible Mother. SO I contacted the local rescue people, who then barraged me with NASTY emails telling me I had taken on the dog for life and he was My responsibility and I might as well give my son away too and other things in that tone...it went on for WEEKS...I finally had to take him to the pound!! It did work out well, though, the pound called me for his papers as they had someone who wanted him and they did not want to give him shots that he might have already had. So he went to a nice person who wanted him and hopefully could handle him. Funny thing is, when we got Shogun, Jimmy (who copies many things we get into and gets into them himself, like renaissance recreation and metal working and jewelry making and knife making etc etc etc....) got Himself an Akita...now parked in MY back yard as this is the same Jimmy who came down here after his separation. Thunder is a nice dog, though, and Robbin is older and able to understand to not mess with the dog.
