post-surgical pain control

A lot of you gave me support and tried to answer my question about

whether or not I'd need extra pain control after my gall bladder

surgery Dec 26. I was worried about the fact that I'm already on a

pretty stiff dose of opiates for chronic pain, and my surgeon seemed

unconcerned about that and was only willing to give me his usual

script for a few milligrams of percoset post-surgery (what I refer to

as " baby aspirin! " )

Well, I made an appointment to see my pain management doc today to

ask him about it (an anaesthesiologist himself, with lots of

experience in surgery), and boy howdy am I ever glad I did! He

agreed that the surgeon's approach was completely inadequate. He

even knows this surgeon, and said that while this surgeon is

technically very good (and that's all that really matters in this

case!), that he is well-known for being completely callous when it

comes to pain!!

So my pain management doc wrote his own script for post-surgery meds

for me, and told me to just tell the surgical team " no thanks, I

don't need it " when they try to hand me their own useless script.

I feel so much better now about going through with this surgery,

knowing I won't be in agony and unable to get any help because it's

the holidays. This doc is just the very best.

Real glad to hear this, Cheryl. It's nice to know that someone out there is

actually listening to us chronic pain patients.

Wishing you the very best of luck with your surgery. May you recovery swiftly

and in as little pain as humanly possible.

Hugs,
