I don't have a problem with getting pain meds refilled. I call the pharmacy about 3 days before I run out to allow him time to work with the physician. Then the pharmacy calls and tells me when my meds are ready. I'm lucky that I've seen the same doctor about 4 years. That allows time to build a trust between doctor and patient. Then too, I've known the pharmacist for more than 20 years. His kids and my kids grew up together. There are times a person needs to change doctors but work to build a relationship with them and always be honest. We wouldn't want any less from them. Good communication works out many problems before they get to be big problems. If your doctor is too busy to care about your pain and well being, I would find out why and then search for another doctor. Judy from Mo. Guest guest
I think it depends on the doctor. My male PCP doctor I had a major problem getting any regular pain medication. I really think they are afraid of people getting addicted and tell me all the time that narcotics don't work on migraines. He only prescribed Florinal, of which I can't take now because of the aspirin. I had to ask another patient from one of my lists that I am on and she refered me. She lives in the same state as I and now we live only 25 miles away from each other. I have been able to help her out when she needed me and she is there for me also. Now that this doctor is my PCP, she won't prescribe anything stronger than percocet and it is a controled substance. I do call it in and wait the 48 hours and then have to either go to her office and pick up the script or have the office mail it to my pharmacy. I think each pain reliever has their own rules on what can be refilled by the pharmacy or doctor and where the script goes. I know my pain clinic will refill my tramadol 50mg by pharmacy, I use Walgreens. I go online, ask for a new prescription and then they fax the doctor and she faxes or mails it back to them. If it doesn't work, someone calls me. Though I did have a pain clinic say that I ought to go thru ONE bottle of pain medications A YEAR with my h/a. And he wasn't going to treat me. Now if it was anything other than my head, not sure if he would have changed his tune or not but he is a DO. Not sure what that means in the long run. I wish I could help you more, HUGS, G
Guest guest
I live basically in the same town as Judy and my doctors are in the same town. I have had nothing but good experiences. I go to the same pharmacy all the time. It is a little bit sad that I don't even have to give them my name when I pull up, they already know me and have it ready when they see my car. They answer my questions, and if the doctor is slow about calling back on a refill on one of the meds I always have to take, the pharmacy will give me a couple of days worth to give the doctor time to get it called back to them. Maybe we just live in the right part of the country to have a good relationship with the doctors and the pharmacies.
