I didn't see this treatment mentioned, so wanted to share. I saw a

neurologist for sciatica. I had great relief from an epidural

injection of steroid in the lower vertebrae for sciatica pain. That

was over four months ago and it has not returned. I was told to

call if the pain returned and they would do another injection.

I also receive from my orthopod injections for knee pain. I have

been able to go three months between visits. Interestingly, my

fibro pain is also reduced greatly from these injections. The last

one, about 4-5 weeks ago, is still keeping a great deal of leg pain

away. I have an appointment with another orthopod (who does backs)

to get relief from lower back pain. I was told by the (knee)

orthopod that the epidural is great for sciatica, but does not help

lower back pain that much. I thought the problem might be in my

hips; however, Knee Ortho said that hip pain is deep in the groin;

anything else is coming from the back.

Just passing this on for what it's worth.

I tried these injections of steroid. Unfortunately as a diabetic these caused

my blood sugars to go way up.

Steroids are not really too good for diabetics for this reason. It also didn't

help the pain, but she used a smaller dose since I am diabetic.

I had high hopes, but can't risk my blood sugar being so high.

  • 1 month later...

I had problems with sciatica years ago but my husband went to a chiropractor

with it and had good results with about three treatments.

My sister that is 86 had pulsed radio frequency done after trying a chiroprator

and whatever her Dr. told her to do. She only had one treatment and never had to

go back. This needs to be covered by insurance though, as it is expensive and

depends on where you live if they have it offered. Just my two cents. Lois
