I would ask how the 24 hour urine test compared to previous tests. Also ask what

his serum creatinine and BUN are, or even better, ask for a copy of the lab

report. That way, you can let the group know certain areas where you have

questions, if you chose. Plus, you can keep it for your records. I always do

this.

Marty, also in So Cal.

questions for neph?

Hi all.........my son has his appointment with his neph tomorrow. As

always, approx. 1 week prior to his appointment he does a 24 hr. urine

collection and blood work. As I have mentioned before the only thing

that we have judged my son's progress on is his protein loss but now

(since belonging to this group) I know there is much more to keep track

of. Could someone provide me with some questions I should ask the

doctor? I have wrote down a couple but would appreciate some input on

the exact things I should ask about. Thanks for the help.

Also, just in general, ask how your son is doing. Out of curiosity, how were his

last labs?

You might also want to ask about his blood pressure. Although I have to

admit I haven't always done it myself, but, I agree with Marty that if you

can, it can be useful to keep copies of his lab results. They are usually on

one or two sheets.

It wouldn't hurt to ask what the plan is for the future, in terms of

treatment, diet, exercise.

Thanks Pierre & Marty...........we are on our way out to the doctor. I have 2

pages of questions including the one's recommended by the 2 of you. You may be

getting a lengthy report back from me later on :- )

To be honest with you Marty, I don't know how his last lab results were with the

exception of

his protein loss which was around 7500 mg (24 hr.) . I'll be asking today for

the results from

this last test and the previous one..........again, thanks for your input.

Good luck with the appointment. It will be interesting to see what kind of

answers you get. My neph is usually good for about 3 questions maximum per

visit : )

Hello........Info on doctor's visit for my son : protein loss 24 hr. -

Jan. 2002/4223 mg. ......April 2002/3140 mg. ........ Serum Creatinine -

Jan./0.7..... April/0.2 ........BUN is 13

Things that are good, even though has heavy protein loss, he has no

swelling and never has had any. He has never had a blood pressure problem,

although he is on 35 mg. daily of Prinivil, which could be the reason no BP

problems. 's BP yesterday was 118/78

The doctor did mention a test which measures the urine protien to blood protein

ratio. In June of 2001 this was at 264, normal range is 90 - 120. The high is

to be expected because of the proteinuria. In January it was at 92.8, which

sounded good to me but the doctor was concerned because this would indicate more

scaring and he said the only way to determine the amount would be by another

biopsy. This last test it was at 128, which slightly eased the docs concerns.

Pierre, sometime ago you asked if anything showed up on the biopsy besides IgA.

The answer is no.

Some of you have discussed having fatigue.......my son also occasionally does,

but not frequently. I asked the doc about this and if it could be IgAN related

and he definately feels that it is.

We spent an entire hour with the doctor and he answered all my questions. I

tried taking notes but know I didn't get everything.........he is very patient

and we have great confidence in him.

The doctor was going to a pediatric nephrology conference today and he told me

that the main speaker was going to be Dr. Leiberman........ha! she was my

nephrologist from 1969 - 1972......a small world it is.

Next visit is in June........hopefully things will continue in the right

direction.

Thanks for your input on questions...
