Hi Marie,

My doc is trying to keep my uterus and ovary in as long as he can. I started having problems when I turned about 38 or 39. [am 42 now]. Reallly I think it all started when I was about 29 when I had an ectopic pregnancy and had to have 1 ovary removed... my body just wasn't the same after that.

But now the past few years I developed a huge fibroid tumor on my uterus and it is smushing everything. The past year [ah maybe it's been two], my remaining ovary has developed multiple cysts... they are just always kind of there... But about a month or so ago they got bad and I had to go to the ER - that's when that was dx'd.

I am not married right now but I know when I will be someday, it's going to hurt too much to be intimate. So.... I iamgine I might be having them out, one of these days. No choice really either. He is concerned about one of the systs rupturing, when I take blood thinners.

The bad thing for me is I can not take hormones... I have 2 things clotting my blood [Lupus] so that's a big no-no. And also that just having surgery while having Lupus, will make the recovery time so much longer.

I hope it won't affect my sex drive. ;-P I've been pretty much almost out of estrogen for years though anwyay... So I guess if it wouldn't be any worse than it already is, I can handle it. I don't want to get older looking overnight though - that will bum me out big time. I just went through that, getting off of steroids which stretched the skin and kind of gives you a youthful appearance, and I was on them for 10 years. Then boom I am off of them and ewww... my eyes and just my face, looks like it aged 10 years overnight. ;- /

On the other hand, I go through heck every month - it even makes my Lupus flare up, so in a big way I would be thrilled to be rid of my uterus. :-) To be rid of both would mean no pain during intercourse hopefully.

Liliput: Having a Hyst. does not age you.. I am only 37.. and I don't think it has changed me much.. I too have problems with taking the HRT's because of heart problem's and I am a smoker.. With the problems you described it would be better for you all the way around to have the hyst.. I watched my mom go through pure hell with Fibroid's and cycts.. she also ended up having a Hyst. at 37.. I know it is a lot to think about.. But one think you half to really consider is how much better you are going to feel. and when you do have sex. how much better it is going to be.. I was in pain so much I couldn't enjoy it at all. now I just don't have the intrest for it.. There are some OTC things you can take for menapause.. I use Promisil. it is made of plant estrogenes and does not contain Black Cohosh.. and there is a Vitamin also that you can take for Menapause..
