Guest guest
Ah the horror of shopping for clothes or almost anything with the nada. My nada decided that I should have a nice dress watch for my high school graduation. That is what her parents bought her so she was trying to start a tradition or something. We go shopping for the watch and put watches on hold till close of business at about three jewelers. I have my choices narrowed down and then we go to Kay jewelers in the mall and i see the one I love. It is half the price of the most expensive one that we have on hold and I like it better anyway. I tell my mom we do not have to go back anywhere else, this is the one. A beautiful brushed yellow gold Citizen with a champagne face (no numbers just a small mark where the 12 should be). Not to dainty for my tomboy ways but pretty. NO. says nada. " I don't like it. " I say well it's not for you it's for me and this is the one that I like. " well you will have to pick another one, that no numbers thing is just ugly, watches should have numbers " I say " I let you pick what kind of gift I get for my graduation, if you aren't going to let me get the one I like then why did you bother to take me with you at all? " The rest that ensues is screaming cursing and my telling her she can shove her " gift " up her a$$. This continues all the way home and spills into the house where my father is at his wits end. Screaming at us to knock it off he wants to know what the f#@% is the problem. Nada points at me and says " ask her " I tell dad what happened and he tells nada to give him the money. He hands it to me and says get whatever you want. xoxoCarla
Guest guest
With me, it wasn't so much shopping for clothes because my mother didn't bother with that for the most part (my dad took care of it). However, the one situation that I remember well was that she was the one who controlled which glasses I got, since she was the one with eye care insurance. The first pair were these HUGE thick brown frames, nothing subtle about them, which she got for me when I was in junior high and already self-conscious. I was so embarrassed by them that I never wore them if avoidable. Plus my father was no help because he accused me of being vain for wanting new ones. Right now I have to wear my glasses for a month because of a lingering eye infection and it just bugs me (don't worry, I have new frames!). I hate glasses and I think I have my mother to thank for that one! is
Guest guest
I had a similar experience. Kids in my high school called me " The Fly " because my glasses were so huge and ugly--and I had no choice but to wear them, because I was practically blind. I sometimes wonder if my nada got a perverse pleasure out of being the pretty one (she had perfect vision)--flanked by two ugly duckling daughters. (my sister had ugly glasses, too) It's taken years, but I really like glasses now. There are lots of fun frames to choose from. It's something I splurge on now & then when I have a little extra money. > > With me, it wasn't so much shopping for clothes because my mother didn't bother with that > for the most part (my dad took care of it).
