Lana,

Are you being serious? Cause I mean, I really lost it after surgery. I was

psycho! Has anyone else had this happen to them? I was told it happened to

my mother after her surgery. I had a CSF leak, and I think the doctors are

blaming the psychosis on that, but I don't see how the two are connected.

Any insights?

HI LANA,

DID YOU KNOW THAT MYSELF, THE ONLY WAY THAT I KNEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG WAS

ONE DAY AT WORK, I PICKED UP THE PHONE AND PUT IT TO MY LEFT EAR AND COULDN'T

HEAR A THING. IT WAS VERY WIERD AND SCARY!

Wow, Alan, I don't remember experiencing what you went through. I was a

little groggy. But not delusional.

What really got me the first time (that was in 1983) were the cockroaches

(gross).

THEY WERE REAL!!! This was a well-known hospital, which shall remain

nameless. My Dad stayed in a student dorm while I was in the hospital (1

week). He told me that the shower was FULL of them. Yuck!!!

Cerebral Spinal Fluid :)

It's the clear/yellowish stuff they are always checking to see if you've had

any run out of your ears/nose after surgery I've never had any out of body

experiences but after my first surgery the site got infected and a spent a

week with a Spinal Drain and on Vicodin.

Hmm...from my experiences (and I've had 7 brain surgeries), I've never spent

more than 1 week or at the most one week and a half in the hospital. I've

had the invasive surgery every time.

I'm wondering if that's the norm?

Please let me know your experiences. I'm very curious (by nature, I guess:o)

Pete, thanks for the clarification of CFS. I have no idea wether I had some

or not.

I'll tell you one thing everybody...since I've joined the Crew, I've learned

so much. I realize now, that I really don't know what's happening with my NF

I laugh about it now, but when I recently had an appointment with Dr.

MacCollin at MGH, I had a whole list of questions and concerns (written out -

I just handed her the piece of paper :o). THANKS for bringing up different

issues and concerns. It's made me more aware of my NF2 (though I still have

a ways to go). Next time that I see Dr. MacCollin, I'll be bringing a book!

:o)

Hello Alan,

So you spent time with Couselor Troi? You lucky devil!! Heh....

I have to ask now, did the Cerebral Spinal Fluid (CSF) leak because of the

AN sugery? Or was it something else?

After my operation last year I spent the first week on the Starship

Enterprise, all the Enterprise crew came to see me, and I finally realised

that I was a holgraphic image, they were trying to see what effect the

differant treatments would have, so they could cure the real me. I drove

the nurses mad asking to be able to E-mail the captain.

I had a CSF leak ( cerable something fluid, that the brain sits in) and this

caused meningitis, and yes I was really gone.

But I'm back on earth now.

Anything can happen when it involves the brain. Probabbly a CSF leak can

cause brain trauma. That's a question for your neurologist.

Oh Man yes Don! Gosh I thought I was the only one with the whacko King

dreams lol. The scariest one I had was when I was just released from St.

's and I was staying in Seton Hall. I decided to take a nap. I guess I

was sleepin pretty hard bc I went into REM. The dream (or should I say

nightmare) was this HUGE nurse that did somewhat resemble Dolores Claiborne

(Kathy Bates) was chasing me around the hospital with a pair of rusty

scissors. She finally got a hold of me and started straping me down like they

did when I woke up from the surgery. Then she was laughing hysterically with

the giant respirator tube. LOL by this time I was screaming and my husband

woke me up real quick like :) Funny thing is the next surgery I had in June

of this year I told the anesesthiologist (I know that's spelled totally

wrong, hang in there with me <g>) to do me good so I wouldn't wake up right

after surgery with that nasty tube in my mouth. I slept thru but still had

WAY WAY vivid dreams, just not so much scary.

while on the subject of being delusional, how many of you that have had AN

surgery had incredibly strange dreams while recovering from that surgery.

Man, if King ever needed new material for a novel, he should've

interviewed me after AN surgeries :P

OH GOSH,

THIS BRINGS BACK MEMORIES...

I REMEMBER AFTER ONE OF MY SURGERIES THAT I WAS IN THE RECOVERY ROOM AND I

WOKE UP. I GUESS THEY WERE BUSY CUZ I STILL HAD THAT TUBE DOWN MY THROAT.

WELL, I WAITED AND WAITED AND WAITED FOR SOMEONE TO COME AND TAKE IT OUT. I

EVEN CAUGHT THE ATTENTION OF SEVERAL OF THE NURSES AND GESTURED TO THEM THAT

I WANTED IT TAKEN OUT. I COULDN'T BREATH THE WAY I WANTED TO.

ANYWAY, I'D WAITED SO LONG THAT I DECIDED TO TAKE MATTERS INTO MY OWN HANDS

AND STARTED TO TAKE IT OUT MYSELF. BOY, DIDN'T THAT GET SOME ATTENTION. I

GUESS THEY KNEW I MEANT BUSINESS AFTER THAT!

WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!!!

OH YEAH, IT IS. I REMEMBER AFTER FIRST BECOMING DEAF (AND MAYBE IT STILL

HAPPENS SOMETIMES) THAT I WAS RIDING IN THE CAR WITH MY AUNT AND SHE WAS

" SCREAMING " AWAY AT ME. SHE THOUGHT I COULD HER HER IF SHE SCREAMED AT ME.

MY DAD TOLD ME LATER. I THOUGHT IT WAS RATHER FUNNY.

Hello Lana,

I get that too. In fact when I was seeing my therapist for the first time

someone just mentioned to her I was deaf. It took her by suprise when I

said, " hello, I'm Mark " and she was like " OMIGAWD! YOU TALK!! " hehe that was

rather humorous.

Just wanted to mention I know how you feel...

Mark

----Original Message Follows----

Do you ever get the stares from people when they

find out your deaf and you talk.I have had people say right out to me " SHE

TALKS " duh,like dumb goes with deaf...people make me MAD...I agree June,I

can

tell when someone is yelling at me and I don't need hearing to know it

sooooo,I will start yelling back and see how they like it.

Lana likes to gab too,in Minnesota :)
