Guest guest
Hi : I'm so sorry to hear of your problems. I had a very dear friend with MS who had the pump inserted in her back. She said it made a huge difference for her and she said she didn't even feel it. (Now that may have been because she also had a pain pump in her abdomen... I have never been on oral Baclofen before and I appreciated hearing from others how it has affected them. How long have you been on it? Does it still make you sleepy? I'm assuming you also take it during the day? Hugs to you ... here's praying for a better time for you soon. Sharoncathylupus wrote: HI Sharon. Guest guest
Sharon, Our neuro prescribed Nuerotin 3 tmes a day , Baclofin 1to 3 times and Restoral at bed time for sleep. The baclofin is taken later in the day is you only use it once or twice a day. Alieve help more than other pain things over the counter . If you are too active the cramps are worse but I'm sure you know that. Good Luck to you. MJ Your experiences with Baclofen needed please Hi Folks: I saw my original neurologist on Tuesday. I'm on 3200 mg. of Neurontin right now although I up it by an extra 800 mg. when I am having a worse time with the Trigeminal Neuralgia. What is Restoral? I know I've heard of it but I can't recall what it's for. Guest guest
Sharon It is a sleeping pill . It helps with staying asleep and improves REM sleep so you are more rested in the AM . My husband has MS . The meds are his. I am impressed with 5 mg Ambien for sleep, not his. Has your Dr mentioned any sleep aid. If you hurt you need help to rest. The baclofin was a 10mg tablet, neurotin was a 100 mg. Let me know how you are doing. When the pain is bad due to spasms it is time for the 1000mg Solumedrol IV. That is twice a year if we are lucky. That makes things better after you get over the solumedrol about 2-3 weeks. There is a pill taper after the solumedrol. They come in " ready meds " They fit in a pocket instead of on an IV stand. We get by with 2 nurse visits and do it at home One visit for hep lock and blood test and 5 days later for another blood test. We wish you much luck. Guest guest
Jane: I did remember that your husband is the one with MS and you are his caregiver. (I remembered something!!!) Okay, I thought Restoral sounded like a sleeping pill (you know, "restful"..lol) Does your husband have to get up at night to go to the bathroom? If so does the sleeping pill interfere with him being able to get up? I am afraid I would have a wet bed if I took a sleeping pill. Last night, for example, I got up 3 times. I've never been on Solumedrol. I did take just an oral round of steroids once but never the IV. So your husband goes on the Solumedrol when the leg pain gets too bad? I never had thought of it that way. I guess the severe pain is an exacerbation, isn't it? I do feel I am in an exacerbation now. It started about a month ago and has been building. I am so grateful for the Baclofen! I was feeling quite desperate about my situation. I have Hydrocodone to take for pain but it didn't even begin to touch the pain in my legs. The hydrocodone does help for my back pain and for my jaw pain. But it's useless for that leg pain for me. When was your husband diagnosed? Does he have Relapsing Remitting MS? And how are YOU doing? I also have other health issues like systemic lupus, aps(clotting disorder), raynauds, etc.... I have been on baclofen since 2000 . Initially it was at a lesser amount as others have shared. As i have worsened it has gotten increased along with tramadol. Now last month neurotnin was mentioned ???? are you familair with that drug???? I have heard alot say taht it helps with pain??? I know it;s used for epilepsy too... baclofen does make u sleepy but it does usually get better the longer u take it. it makes me sometimes feel queasy too depending on how i might be feeling.... since I had the flu a few weeks ago i have been having the spinning problem.... so add that to the queasy feeling .... you know ??? yes i take baclofen 1 in the morning, 1 in the late afternoon & 3 at bedtime for a total of 50 mg.... i noticed my last post said 59..lol... my finger must have slipped.... well thanks for listening... hugs, cathy -----Original Message-----From: MSersLife [mailto:MSersLife ] On Behalf Of Sharon MarsdenSent: Friday, January 20, 2006 2:52 PMTo: MSersLife Subject: RE: Your experiences with Baclofen needed please Hi : I'm so sorry to hear of your problems. Guest guest
Sharon, With the sleeping pill you wake up when when you need to get up. Detrol can add to your sleep by reducing the times you get up to make trips to the bath room . Our problem is finding a way to get up with four cats in our bed. The reason for our Solumedrol IV is Leg pain and extreme fatigue. I think things are progressive but not sure. The Iv's have him walking better than 4 years ago . Once he had the MS hug chest pain for a few days. The neuro said IV's NOW. That stopped those. I thought the IV was a standard thing to improve pain and symptoms that are becoming worse. The way things hook up in the ready Med IV'S He can do the saline flush and then the hep flush himself. Guys like to tinker and play with things The IV always surprises me with improvement but did not help our friend as much. He had MS 20 years. Jack has had this for about 6 years. He just retired in August. This quad muscle ripped loose from his knee cap a week after retirement. He had surgery 3 weeks later . He did great with rehab. Most of it he did himself. Christmas he had fatigue very badly and leg pain MS kind.WE did IV just before New Years , He did not perk up as much as normal about. 10days later, he had a heart attack. Good call by the ER Dr. He had heart cathaterization and a stent put in . Three days later he feels good .. Today there is mild leg pain. We are happy with things. I hope some of this sharing helps you helps . Last Jan 05 He had Trysabri . He loved it and wants to try it again. The results were great. Our Neuro says he will not give it again. He says there are other options. Sorry about my spelling. The oral steroids don't compare to the 5 days IV not even 5 % as good for Jack. WE all have to remember how the illness is so different for each person. It is nice to have a Dr that will let you try what you feel will help ,with in reason. We just spent today with friends eating out and going to an art show. He is sleep now. Best wishes , MJ At 03:20 PM 1/21/2006 -0800, you wrote: http://www.healthsquare.com/newrx/res1373.htm -- re: Restoril, n, who is at it again, but not for long, leaving for wildlife viewing in a few minutes, love to all of you on our list!
