Guest guest
Greetings All, It was good to read your post tonight Carolyn, I was prescribed Methadone several years ago as well for my chronic severe pain ! At the time I was an inpatient so the conversion was carried out under hospitalized supervision. My experience with this medication seems to mirror yours, feelings of unreality, profound mood swings and on occasion severe respiratory depression, I assumed that over time these side effects would diminish, unfortunately they did not. After persisting with this treatment for about ten months I developed a condition called Gynecomastia, ( abnormal enlargement of breast tissue )this prompted my doctor to restore my previous medication regime. Strangely this happens more so with men, apparently due to hormonal imbalance. I'm not quite sure as to the exact cause I am happy to report that all returned to normal soon after cessation of therapy. Usually I have no problems, it was just unfortunate that I could not tolerate this drug. Apart from the above-mentioned side effects I found it to be an extremely reliable analgesic when taken on a 8 hourly dosing schedule. I am aware that many members of this group take this medication and tolerate it well, best wishes to everyone. Regards, Shane
