My experiece with hemo is limited. I only did it for a short while with a

permcath in my neck like you may be getting. I also had the sweaty / shaky

feeling but nothing like you had with the blowout. Hopfully monday will go

better for you. My thoughts and prayers go with you.

update on 1st dialysis trip

Warning***may be sensitive subject for those not yet on dialysis

Hello everyone ... well as you may know I went in for my first dialysis apt.

yesterday, lets just say it did NOT go well at all!

First it started out OK. The nurse got the first line in with little problem

but as soon as she flushed in the Heparin the problems started, I immediately

got hot and sweaty and shaky then I started vomiting all over the place. Then

I felt as if my arm was on fire so I looked at it and a giant purple balloon

was blowing up under my skin in my forearm, not where the needle was in but

about 5 inches higher on my arm. I started freaking out so the nurse yanked

out the IV line and yelled out to the doctor on-call. they all came running

over and said maybe I was allergic to Heparin. Anyway, after about an hour of

trying to find my Nepohrologist and trying to get me under control they

decided that it wasn't possible to try the Dialysis again because the vessel

in my fistula blew. So after arguing with them about options this is what we

came up with: they want me to come in on Monday to try again and if the same

thing happens they will transfer me over to the hospital to have a catheter

inserted in my neck and use that for dialysis. In the mean time my left arm

is still twice the normal size and so full of blood under the skin that it's

hard and purple. I don't know what to do, I want MY doctor's opinion but

nobody can find him. Monday is a Holiday so I'm not sure if he'll be in his

office before I am supposed to show up at the clinic to try again, I am so

afraid the same thing will happen & then on top of it I'll have to have 2

tubes hanging out of my neck (ouch!)

Has anyone ever heard of these reactions to dialysis? I am so confused as to

what to do!!!

Thanks & sorry so long (again)

Poor Mia. That sure is a terrible start to it!. Well, I know it's easy for

ME to say, not having reached that stage yet, but, don't get discouraged.

I'm sure things will get sorted out.

Maybe you will end up having to get dialyzed through the neck catheter for a

while, until they can get a new access ready.

Things happen sometimes . Too bad it had to be you.

Hopefully, those members on dialysis will have some advice for you. Good

luck, and will be thinking of you.

Thank you all so much! I hope things go well for you too :o) as I'm

sure they will~geesh the things we have all had to endure huh? Sometimes I

wonder if it's all worth it ... then I look into the faces of my babies and

husband and family realize that all of the pain and suffering is very worth

it if it means I get to spend more time with them :o) ~ feeling sappy...good

night all -

I'll keep you all updated!

Sorry to hear of your terrible experience with trying to start dialysis.

Hope it goes better on Monday and that you are able to get a donor approved

for transplant soon. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers -

I am so very sorry to hear that you had such a bad time with your first

time for dialysis. I hope on Monday they manage to sort things out for

you. If it is any consolation I am due to undergo surgery tomorrow, to

relieve a small blockage in my right kidney, and drain off a

cyst..probably nowhere near as problematic as your situation, but tricky

nevertheless. Let's hope both of us get on well, I will be thinking of

you.

Best wishes

update on 1st dialysis trip

Hello everyone ... well as you may know I went in for my first dialysis

apt.

yesterday, lets just say it did NOT go well at all!

First it started out OK. The nurse got the first line in with little

problem

but as soon as she flushed in the Heparin the problems started, I

immediately

got hot and sweaty and shaky then I started vomiting all over the place.

Then

I felt as if my arm was on fire so I looked at it and a giant purple

balloon

was blowing up under my skin in my forearm, not where the needle was in

but

about 5 inches higher on my arm. I started freaking out so the nurse

yanked

out the IV line and yelled out to the doctor on-call. they all came

running

over and said maybe I was allergic to Heparin. Anyway, after about an

hour of

trying to find my Nepohrologist and trying to get me under control they

decided that it wasn't possible to try the Dialysis again because the

vessel

in my fistula blew. So after arguing with them about options this is

what we

came up with: they want me to come in on Monday to try again and if the

same

thing happens they will transfer me over to the hospital to have a

catheter

inserted in my neck and use that for dialysis. In the mean time my left

arm

is still twice the normal size and so full of blood under the skin that

it's

hard and purple. I don't know what to do, I want MY doctor's opinion but

nobody can find him. Monday is a Holiday so I'm not sure if he'll be in

his

office before I am supposed to show up at the clinic to try again, I am

so

afraid the same thing will happen & then on top of it I'll have to have

2

tubes hanging out of my neck (ouch!)

Has anyone ever heard of these reactions to dialysis? I am so confused

as to

what to do!!!

Thanks & sorry so long (again)
