Guest guest
Hi Marnie, You seem like a real trooper. I also raised two kids alone for the most part. And I lost bits of function very gradually, learning to cope out of necessity, as I'm sure you will! Like you, my vision leaves much to be desired, I have little depth perception or equilibrium, but miraculously my taking a computerized accounting course helped restore fine motor skills in my right hand. Also, I found that if I print in all caps, my handwriting is much more legible. I have had five family members diagnosed with NF2. I've worried since my two children were pre-schoolers that the day might come when they'll be diagnosed with NF2, but as yet that hasn't happened. I hear that great strides are being made in genetic research, that could conceivably reprogram a defective gene, and remember, it's not your fault that NF2 happened to your child any more than it was your parent's are to blame. I made myself keep going to family gatherings and finally understood that they felt no differently towards me. They tell me they're proud of how I hung in there. It's just that it was so new to them, too, they didn't relax about it for years. Well.. all any of us can do is the best possible with the challenges we're faced with, and I bet having a support group like NF2 Crew will help you along your new path. Looking forward to hearing from you again. I might select that " read email off the web " option but will be reading your messages and writing you back one way or another. ttys,
