I'm not on candesartan, but I've been on losartan, valsartan, and for more

than two years on irbesartan (Avapro). These are all the same class of BP

drugs: angiotensin II AT-1 receptor blockers. I can't speak for everyone,

but from my own experience with them, I would have to say that they all

pretty much work and feel the same. They also feel very similar to ACE

inhibitors - less the dry cough that many people have on the ACEI's.

No major side effects for me, except perhaps some indigestion at times. No

headaches at all though. You might feel a little tired at first, but maybe

not. This class of drugs has the lowest side effect profile of any blood

pressure medication on the market.

Good luck with it.

Pierre and the group,

Some time ago I posted a query regarding a drop in my blood pressure

causing me to become faint. It has happened again and I have discovered the

reason. It is a low grade gastric virus which lasts for a few days. It does not

affect the rest of my family very much other than a mild dose of diarrhea. With

me it has been draining me of energy. I attributed this to low BP. (It is

112/72.) when in actual fact it is the effect of the virus having a more

pronounced effect on me than the rest of the family because of my IGAN. Just

goes to show how easy it is to jump to the wrong conclusion.

Just for the record, I am on 3 BP medications. 10 mg Plendil (felodipine) 8mg

Atacand (candesartan cilexetil) and 25mg Tenormin (alenolol). The prescription

was changed because of high potassium (6mmol/L). The Atacand was reduced from 16

to 8mg. Doing this before when I erroneously thought my BP was going too low

caused my potassium to drop from 5.8 to 5.1mmol/L. It is an annoyance to have to

juggle with all the prescriptions but, like you Pierre, I have tried a lot of BP

medicants over the past 20 years with only limited success.

Looking back I can see the familiar trail left by the slow but dogged

progression of IGAN although I did not realise it at the time.

Hello,

I am new to this board. I have fibro and many other problems as

well. I was wondering what medications many of you take and what

other treatments you use for this dreadful condition. Between my

fibro, sleep apnea, thyroid problem and arthritis, I am in La La land

all the time and pain as well. My rheumy doesn't know what is

causing me more pain. The fibro or the psoriatic arthritis. I take

Enbrel and Naprosyn for them.

Gentle hugs to all.

Janet
